Time of past OR future Camino
Planning to do my first camino (May/Jun) 2014
Is it still right to budget for about 35 euros a day, keep seeing mixed reports :)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
That is a decent budget. If you need to, you can beat it, but you will have a great time on that amount.

Hi falcon, Thanks for your reply, When did you do your camino, And what time of the year do you think is best? :)

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
This year I did the Chemin du Puy, Via Tolosana, Camino Aragones, and Camino Frances from April to July. I like May and October. September was another favorite, but it is getting very busy from pilgrims who are avoiding July and August, which are hot, dry, and crowded.

I was thinking late April/early May, That must have been some mileage, Thank you for your input, Very much appreciated, :)

Hola and happy new year

Another often used 'calculator' for the budget is 1 € pr. km.
Saint Jean to Santiago would sum up to 850 €.
Add the unexpected and 1000 € will do well for primary inexpensive Albergues, Menu del Dia or Perigrinos,
layover days etc.

I don't think this is a good approach, especially for those planning to walk shorter distances each day. The reason is that the major cost drivers are accommodation and meals, both daily costs, NOT distance related costs.

If you do want to take the risk of this approach, I suggest you use 1.5€ / km to give a more realistic estimate that includes some contingency.

Regards

Can I clarify? Are you saying 850 euros plus another 1000 so total of 1850 euros? Or that 1000 euros is sufficient for the whole trip? Excluding flights of course.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Last year [I can say that now!!] I did a day by day analysis of expenditure:

Average per day:

€ 2.50 Breakfast
7.44 Lunch
€ 8.77 Dinner
€ 3.31 Light refreshments
€ 22.66 Accommodation
€ 4.84 Other expenses

There weren't many albergues on my route [Lisbon to Porto] so hostals were the norm with a few albergues included. So total = 50 Euros a day including all meals and accommodation. Full details on the web site ["Pilgrimage III"]
Hope this helps!
Buen camino!

Thank you :)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Point taken Dougfitz and you are right.
It certainly depends on many things such as daily km, albergues or hostals, dining out or preparing food with others, and much more.
When I walked Frances I did it in a month and for me it worked out to be a little less than 1000 € on the camino.
Maybe the 'calculator' can be useful for people planning a part of the camino, like SJPP to Burgos; 390 km, ≈12 stages: cost 400+ € for a 'basic' walk. ( even better - go with 1.5 € = 600 €)

I think I will leave it at this and get our before I create more confusion than clarity :)

I think everything depends on amout of days and km walked. If you walk sjpdep in 30 days,I did once. €30. X 30= €900. Of you do same walk over 40 days then it's €30 x40= €1200. Your camino your pick. Throw in a few paradors at €230 .00 a nite your budget goes up a bit. Buen camino
