Where is the "drinking pilgrim" statue?

Time of past OR future Camino
2006 to date: Over 21 Caminos. See signature line
I have never seen this statue!
A pilgrim "drinks" from his gourd when you drink from the fountain.
Can someone tell me exactly where this is and approximately how far from Astorga it is?
Thanks.

The Green Monster - for the uninitiated - being the monstrous greenish, steel overpass that you must climb several landings on to walk over the high-speed train tracks.

It is ugly, but necessary to prevent pedestrian deaths - the trains are very fast. The vehicle crossing is closed.

Hope this helps.

I don't understand how you could miss this statue if you follow either camino from Hospital de Órbigo to Astorga. The Crucero de Santo Toribio is at the top of the hill, the statue of the drinking pilgrim [Sculpture "Sitio" (Tengo Sed) [I'm thirsty] (2014) by the artist Rosendo García Ramos 'Sendo' (1948- ).] is near the bottom of the hill, where the path meets the road. You can see it on Streetview.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

And after you have a drink of water you come to that green monster. I just stood and stared at that thing trying to figure out why it was like that.
Yup. I know the green monster.
I just have never paid any attention to the statue/fountain I guess.
Probably tired by the time I got there and just anxious to get over the highway and into my lodgings.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

When was the last time that you walked that stretch? The statue has only been there since 2014.

I've probably walked it 3 or 4 times since then, but I don't stop and fill up at many fountains. I'm not a big water drinker. Also, by the time I get near Astorga I'm usually just making a beeline. I've probably seen the statue from the back and ignored it - I just didn't know it "drank." :) This year I'll definitely pay attention.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

On the down hill slope into Astorga - about 1 - 2 Kms before you reach the pedestrian cross over zig zag rail bridge. Best way to explain - before any buildings. It was a real pleasure to see this statue after such a long hot walk.

I was surprised how many pilgrims walked on past while I was there, never discovering this feature.

I haven't seen this before - I guess it is after my time. Isn't there also an old, scarecrow-y statue along that route before you get to Astorga? Or did this replace it?
By the Way, at first I thought you were mocking my profile photo when you mentioned a statue of a drinking pilgrim.

Well, they have one there too just a different type of monster. I should have posted a photo along with the drinking pilgrim to give everyone a visual to the Camino green monster. Here ya go! 😎👣🌻 Isn’t she a beauty?

I think it was there when you walked based on what you have written for the caminos/dates you have walked. I could be wrong of course

The scarecrow is shortly after Santibañez de Valdeiglesias, before the Crucero de Toribio.
