No politics and no advertising, but I have always enjoyed visiting Istanbul and find the Turkish people to be warm welcoming hosts. Our respective governments decided to play at kindergarten pouting games and don't get along so well but relations between peoples have remained good. I always fly Turkish Airlines, more room sitting wise, friendly staff, two pieces of baggage, and even the food is good!!!
They have a flight from Tel Aviv to Bilbao several times a week but many other companies will be more than happy to do it as well. More importantly for me, they have flight from Santiago de Compostela through Bilbao back home!!! If Bilbao why it's the Guggenheim for sure!
Where is the conundrum? Spanish buses and trains are grand things... usually. Renfe informs me that while there are no direct trains from Bilbao to Pamplona it is possible with one or two connections to do the trip, 150+ kilometers, in only six (6!) hours. ALSA does the same distance a bit faster through San Sebastian! In other words, it takes a similar time to do 155k in Spain as flying in from Tel Aviv!
For those flying to Madrid from Australia, Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan anywhere in the Middle East remember the baggage allowance of Turkish Air and their service, may be of some help. That return from the very user friendly Santiago airport may save time and money spent elsewhere.
