Thinking about it. Depends on the state of the world and if all the virus stuff has settled down. Would like to walk the Val Carlos route this time, sort of end of April. If things are not settled, then perhaps next Sept. I hit 65 this year and though fit, would like to get a few more Caminos in before I get too ancient. :)

April 2021 is my target date for walking the Norte, exactly a year later than my foiled plans this year, but I'm not holding my breath. I see nothing necessarily magic between the year 2020 and 2021...they are unfortunately only numbers.

Was thinking the same myself. The Val Carlos would make a nice change but then, at 72 next year, I think I might be wary of walking unless there is a vacine. Actually, more wary of travelling to and from the camino. Even with a pair of Ivar's masks, dont like being in any kind of crowd. If it happens however, it will be early April or late March

I've booked a flight to Biarritz for 30th March. It's nice to have it on the calendar, but I'm very comfortable with the fact that it may not be possible or appropriate.

I loved the Valcarlos route so much I've done it twice. For me it's the Napoleon route that would maybe be a nice future change.
I too, am rather paranoid of crowds since covid and stay away, but agree it's the flights going abroad and returning home that has me most concerned for now.

Not the CF but hoping to walk the last half of the VDLP in April. As each day passes, however, I get less optimistic since it seems we're not doing enough to control the pandemic. I like simplistic solutions. Not sure why we don't plan on getting two weeks of food for everybody, along with two weeks of pay, and really shut the world down. Too much "But I'm special" going round. Yes, I know it's unrealistic.

Two people to walk the Camino de Santiago in the spring of (2018)
Who’s walking the Francis next April?!
I and my partner plan on walking the Frances starting mid-April 2021. We walked a good portion in 2018 and want to do the pilgrimage in it's entirety. It was advertised as being a walk of 30-35 days. We both can walk 25 clicks in a day, we just can't do it every day!!
We have made one way air reservations out of San Francisco through Lisbon to Barcelona with TAP Air.
The Good: Our airfare cost only $110 per ticket, one way! Depending on the circumstances we can bail in Lisbon and do a different walk or fly onto Barcelona and work our way up to St. Jean.
The Bad: TAP no longer flies to San Francisco and, indeed, may not even exist as an entity in 2021.
Oh well. Did I tell you that the fare was only one hundred and ten bucks?!!!!! :D

At the moment (in the last days) the new cases do not rise any longer in Spain. And the deaths are far below the number of deaths in the first wave.
If it hopefully stays like this there is no need for a new complete lock down.

I’ve been thinking of starting a little earlier. Starting the CF in February from Roncevalles, and then finishing around the end of March. Of course assuming that we have an effective vaccine, or other extremely good and safe news.

I think if you’re going to make plans with the coronavirus in mind, you won’t actually know until very near that time. So one can make plans, but must be willing to change them.

I would also like to start in February, as a previous poster on a Levante thread has indicated that the route was already fairly warm at that point. But there is so much uncertainty about the widespread availability of a vaccine by that point that I decided my choices would likely be between late Spring and Autumn. I shall not be booking a flight until after I have been vaccinated,

Various ones.
I rearranged my flights from Xmas( which were originally from April this year) to March 25th 2021, I am probably going to walk on the Invierno and then onto Finistera.
I think March might be on the crossover period for safely walking , if it is too early then starting from Braga in August will probably be my restart Camino.
I was going to walk from my home next year but Brittany Ferries have altered their travelling arrangements for foot passengers from Plymouth to Santander, they could be back to normal next year or maybe not.
I will be happy to spend any time on any Camino next year,if that's how it turns out

April 7, 2021: I plan to arrive at Mansilla de las Mulas -- where my last walk ended -- and then push on into the west.

If Spain lets me in.
Not to derail this thread, Rev, and I’m pretty sure you already know this, but the Mozarabic San Miguel de la Escalada is a mere 14 kms away and AMAZING.

2015-2019 walked all or more than half of CF 7 times... CP recently cancelled by Covid 19!
We will start CF early September if USA permitted to enter europe and vaccine and health insurance available ....

Question....most travel insurance policies from the states limit senior health insurance to $ 50,000. Does anyone frm USA and is over 70 have a more extensive plan at a reasonable rate?

Would like to start Camino Frances in March 2021 - 5 years since last time
(and what an experience it was in march!: Snow, wet snow, lots of snow in places it 'never' use to snow, blizzard, rainrainrain, wind, more rain and a few sunny days. But I felt so good - and warm (even when I was wet and cold) due to being able to be outside all day, walk through regions, seeing the landscape change, wonderful places, grafitti, art, churches, cathedrals, homes, doors, nature, people - in particular elder locals)
but will postpone it to October 2021 - or later - according to the Covid-19 situation. Walking when not high season is simply magic.
Meanwhile I will gather more information about places and use variable sources and the forum for inspiration.

I am hoping to start in mid-April, if Spain decides to allow Americans in! Also thinking about going a little earlier, we will see... Question: For those who are experienced C. de Francis walkers, where do you suggest to fly in to? I'll be coming from Florida..

Fauci just said even if the US gets a vaccine soon, the frontline essential workers will get it first. Ordinary people cannot expect to get any until perhaps the end of 2021. I doubt the EU will let Americans in sooner than that. So April 2021 is perhaps too optimistic for Americans.

Hi @Bradbeyer, this sub-forum has lots of useful travel information.

Paris and Madrid are popular arrival points for those coming from the US.
The Rome2Rio website is a very helpful tool for figuring out your options. Happy planning and Buen Camino!

I have not yet walked The Way of St. Francis, but have been to Assissi (loved it) and Rome, so it has practically been at the top of my list, once I complete the balance of the Norte as I turned onto the Primitivo prior, combined with walking on to Muxia and Finesterre. Those were the plans I had in place for 2020.

I agree, Camino Chrissy. Given how the case numbers and hospitalizations are near cataclysmic for hospitals in the USA and vaccinations ( in arms) in USA have been far slower than anticipated, I do not think it is realistic that April travel to Spain is likely.
