The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Remember that when it says 80% or 90% rain or snow that's the chance that there will be any precipitation that day, not that it will occur all day.
... but the amount of rain predicted indicates several days of constant downpour. That would mean that the Napoleon route will be closed due to snow.
But then again it is a long term forecast so a lot can change ...

I really hope, the Norwegian forecast is totally wrong

So, did you look today 🙂? BTW, I'd check the weather for Col de Bentarte instead of Roncesvalles. yr.no accepts this location.

I like meteoblue because the full web version indicates the predictability (reliability) of the current forecast. Even on the day itself the predictability can be just "high" instead of "very high".

They have a 7-day forecast based on the weather model of a number of weather services. At the moment of writing the predictability for the Col de Bentarte is low because of the great differences between the various weather models.

They also have a meteogram that shows the altitude of the cloud cover in km. It can tell you whether you are likely to have some views under a cloudy sky on the Route Napoleon or whether you are likely to be walking in fog (clouds) without seeing a thing.

And they have advice about what do do if the forecast is uncertain:
  1. Develop alternatives for your decisions which are feasible with every possible weather development.
  2. Check forecast updates more frequently.
  3. Check the progress of actual weather more frequently.
  4. Postpone important activities, if they depend strongly on weather.
People sometimes say that the weather forecast was completely wrong. I think they just didn't read it correctly 🙃.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Well, up North where we live we are extremely dependent on the weather, even buying food and provisions sometimes has to be delayed because of the weather. So I am used to live with the weather whatever it might be like ☺

I am prepared to wait one up to three days, but nevertheless it would be a bit sad to just sit and wait already during the fist few days ;-)

Might check meteoblue to see what the service is like.

Even on yr.no the forecast has already considerably changed in the 2 days since you posted: now less precipitation, less snowflakes, and warmer ... let us know next week how it was 🙂.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thanks for all the advice on wheathersites etc. I’m leaving home in a week, will check the wheather next tuesday to make a final decision on clothes to bring. Let’s hope the weather will be dry!

So maybe we meet... either in t-shirt or rain jacket ;-)

There's now a webcam again in operation in Saint Jean Pied de Port. It looks onto the train station and the Pyrenees. However, you cannot see the condition of the trail from that far away 🙂.

For webcam in SJPP see http://www.meteo-garazi.ovh/ - garazi is the Basque name for the region around SJPP; meteo means weather forecast in French.

I have walked twice starting mid-April and the Napoleon route opened on the 14th and then closed again both times. No matter which route you take, prepare for cold weather. Both years I went I had plenty of freezing temperatures and walked in a snowstorm at Cruz de Fero on May 12th. You can predict the rain as one time I used my rain gear 75% of the days and only pulled it out for snowflakes on 1 day the other time. For this time of year I would have gloves and a beanie.

I arrive in SJPP Wednesday and start walking Thursday..

I feel for you.. as I am leaving one day later. Crossing my fingers, wishing the rain away (or at least only rain at night 🙈)
