I will be flying into Barcelona as my entry point this year. Would anyone familiar with this city care to recommend an accommodation near the airport or train station.

What is the best way to get from the airport to the train station?

I will be traveling from Barcelona to Irun. Planning to walk a Vasco/Frances/Invierno Camino.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The best way to get from the airport to the city is the airport couch or the commuter train.

There are a couple of train stations and bus stations (probably Estacio del Sants train station or Estacio de Nord the bus station for Irun). I don´t know yet whether to take a train or a bus bus is the best way. I think there is a bus leaving for Irun at 14.30 March 31 (about €30). It is too early to book though.

I use this site when booking a hotel.

You could try a hostel.
http://www.somniohostels.com Barcelona Mar from 20 euro
Kabul Backpackers: http://www.kabul.es/booking_hostel_barcelona.php 22€ - 24€

This website offers 'alternative' accommodation, B&Bs, rooms and flats.
For instance you could rent French designer Anne-CĂ©cile Espinach's lovely room 'La Musa' http://www.myft.net/barcelona-tours/lamusa.html

Or stay in a room offered by Aodh, your Irish host,
at http://www.myft.net/barcelona-tours/lamona.html

Or, for €75 you can have a 30sqm flat and make use of the flat’s fully-equipped kitchen to prepare your breakfast, for which milk, fruit, biscotti, butter, jam, etc. are provided.

When I went to Barcelona, I had made reservations in the Youth Hostel.
The photos online make it look wonderful.
It is not.
It was dark, dirty, and we walked away.

Luckily, our flight was met at the airport by men handing out cards of private Pensiones.
We took a chance and followed one of them to a sweet little private casa with a room for rent.
We paid less than the hostel rate for a clean bed and hot shower.

So.. don't pass by those guys if they want to hand you a card.
They can be a good deal!

If you are not on a very tight budget, it doesn't really matter where you stay because taxis are cheap in Spain and you could get a taxi from anywhere in the city to the rail or bus station.

We flew into Barcelona and stayed at the Nisia Bed and Breakfast. The hosts were very kind and the B*B was within walking distance of everything (well at least for someone who was planning on hiking more than 800 km). The accommodations were clean and the breakfast plentiful for Europe.

I suggest you check it out. http://www.nisiabcn.com/

Thanks to all who have provided feedback.

Couch-surfing is something I never considered. Not sure I would be comfortable doing that but it might be interesting to try sometime.

Falcon, have you or any others tried couch-surfing?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
