HI GOOD PEOPLE!
Tomorrow I will start the caminho português with my dog and I need some information please!! Anyone knows if my dog can stay in the albergues with me? If not, we have a tent ;)
And if the all albergues are open like in the summer?
Light and Love!!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Olá Leticia, cães no albergue? Não, dogs are not allowed in albergues, only guide dogs. But, because it´s off season you can ask if it´s possible to stay with your dog. About camping. If you walk along the coast, you can stay at ORBITUR campsites in Angeiras, Rio Alto, Viana do Castelo e Caminha. With your credential you´ll get the pilgrim´s fare not only for your tent. They offer nice bungalows for pilgrims. Normalmente, the albergues are all open. ORBITUR campsites are open all year round.

Bom caminho , Rainer

Hello Rainer
Thank you! But in ORBITUR campsites I have to paid? Or works like donation?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi Leticia, yes there is a fee for ORBITUR campsites. It seems to average €10 per night but can be less depending on individual sites and the discount offered to pilgrims. I suppose this is similar to the amount one might leave at a Donativo albergue. It is unclear whether your dog would be allowed on ORBITUR sites from my brief review of their website so you would need to make your own enquiries in that respect.

Olá Leticia, the price per person is between 9 and 12 € in a bungalow. Pois claro, a tent is much cheaper, as I remember it´s 2.50 € per night. Dogs are allowed on the campsites. All ORBITUR campsites have the same discount for pilgrims - Portugalwide!

And not to forget - think about getting back from Santiago.

Dogs are not allowed in buses and in trains there is a limit. Renfe says: transport shall be limited to small pet animals, including dogs, cats, ferrets and birds (not of corral), whose maximum weight does not exceed 10 kg. And your dog must travel inside its carrier or cage or any closed container, there is no official type or an approved carrier, the only requirement is that it be closed and that the measurements do not exceed 60x35x35 cm

Wild camping in Portugal is forbidden due to the fear of fire.
Expect high penalties !

Urbitur campings are mainly at the Portuguese coast. On other places along the waymarked path are hardly any campingsites.
My wife and I travelled and camped a lot in Portugal and Galicia but only on the part between Porto to Vila do Conde you will find campings nearby the caminho route.and if you continue a the coast as Rainer said in Viana do Castelo, a municipal in Praia de Âncora en one in Caminha.
We stayed 14 days at the camping in Ponte de Lima but this one is about 5 kms away from the center and the waymarkers. Not an alternative for peregrinos.

From Lisbon to Porto we only stayed at campings in Vila Franca de Xira and Golegã nearby the caminho.

In Galicia on the coastal you will find one camping in Mougas between A Guarda and Baiona. Thats all.

I was amazed on my recent Camino Frances the number of Pilgrims there were with non guide dogs. I maybe encountered 20. I started Sept 15th. As if sometimes finding accommodation and food was not hard for the solo pilgrim it did seem to be quite stressful at times for the dog owners to find somewhere suitable to stay.
