I had this happen to me several years ago near the wine fountain of Irache. I call him The Dirty Old Man of Irache. When I tried to say goodbye and get away, he felt me up. I told him, “Mi esposa no lo gusta” in my fractured Spanish. I pushed him away, and I know he got the idea.Just did this walk a few days ago - on the beautiful section of Stones and Water - just after leaving Armenteiro , there is a local fellow accosting women. (Happened to several of us) Just a heads up to not get into any conversation with him, keep you eyes forward!

Im actually happy it was posted here. And I do hope it can be communicated or reported on the ground as well, but any warnings are super appreciated. - especially for some of us who are or are planing to on walking solo.I hope you reported this to police. It doesn't do much good posting here if the problem is there on the ground.
Just added a new sentence to my must know Spanish list… hahahaha… thank you!I had this happen to me several years ago near the wine fountain of Irache. I call him The Dirty Old Man of Irache. Thank you for posting this information, could you please be a bit more specific on what he was doing? Thanks.Just did this walk a few days ago - on the beautiful section of Stones and Water - just after leaving Armenteiro , there is a local fellow accosting women. Unfortunately this happens all too often along the Camino and all women should be aware at all times especially those walking solo.Just did this walk a few days ago - on the beautiful section of Stones and Water - just after leaving Armenteiro , there is a local fellow accosting women. Thanks @Faye Walker for bringing this ( again ) to our attention.Age and description might help as well. Without being an apologist for it, a well-known issue in Portugal and in Spain is that many elderly family members remain at home… and many have marked dementia that expresses itself, frequently enough, in sexual aggression as well as other forms of aggression. Which is to say: a call to the police to notify local healthcare agencies (centros de saluda) and to handle the policing matter of getting the person off the streets.
When I spent 2 days in the ER of a hospital in Portugal in 2019, I counter 27 extremely elderly people on gurneys, many with some form of dementia expressed with both sexual and physical aggression.
It’s just very very sad… and very dangerous/traumatizing for those who are accosted. and heart-breaking for families involved on the ground.
If it’s a younger person, then there’s less likelihood of healthcare and criminal issues overlapping.
Yes basically same thing happened - that walk we were on goes for quite a ways before you reach anything. At the first bar we reached we told the proprietor and asked her to report. Later that day when we reached Vila de Arosa we talked to others who had been approached by him earlier on the same segment. He stopped us to talk about about the walk and seemed nice enough til we said adios!I had this happen to me several years ago near the wine fountain of Irache. I call him The Dirty Old Man of Irache. You can call ahead for a reservation. A few people were turned away I was there in mid- September.Thank you for this post. My wife and I will be walking that way in the near future. By chance, did you stay at the Albergue in Armenteira? If so, was it difficult to get a bed there?
I sent a message ahead on what’s app requesting bunks. It was completely full the night we were there so I was glad we had! There is also the monastery (I had emailed but was full) and a parador hotel - that’s it!Thank you for this post. My wife and I will be walking that way in the near future.
