Best way to get to start of the Camino Frances?

Time of past OR future Camino
I have done the Camino Frances once, April/May 2012, and plan to do the Camino again sometime.
Hello everyone,
I am thinking of doing the Camino Frances, first time, in September all the way to Santiago. Assuming I am to begin at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on the French side, I wonder how most people get there. Do they fly in to Paris and then go south, or Madrid or Barcelona and then go north to begin the Camino. Just thinking about the logistics. Right now I have a flight into Madrid, but can change it if I need to. I am from the USA so have to fly in somewhere! Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Richard...welcome to the Forum and the Class of 2011!

I flew into Madrid then flew into Pamplona...stayed at the albergue there (taxi drivers know which are open). The next morning shared a taxi with two others starting at Roncesvalles...I went on to SJPDP. There are other options: check out the Pilgrim FAQ and SEARCH option at the top right of the page for additional info.

Also consider an "open Jaw" flight to-from the USA. For example: Fly into Madrid and fly out of Santiago back home.

Buen Camino
