Best way to get to Triacastela?

Hi again folks. We’ve been looking at ways to make the Triacastella start-point work, likely coming from Madrid. Due to flights, etc, we would most likely want to be stepping out from Triacastella early on a Saturday morning. The day doesn’t have to be inflexible, but is preferred.

The most convenient way to get to Triacastella would seem to be train to Sarria and get a car early the following morning, then start to walk. Is that likely to be achievable, please?

Alternatively we could maybe train to Ponferrada and bus to Tricastella. We would welcome any thoughts, recommendations or suggestions, please.
Have a great day!

By car you mean a taxi?

If you wanted to do a "warm up" walk - you could get the train to Sarria and then walk via Samos (maybe see the Monastry and then after an overnight walk back via A Balsa and Furela. I cycled through the valley from Samos to Aguiada (back in Sept 2015) and the Fall leaf colour was mind-blowing. Either way its an easy 20 km. Just a thought,. Cheers

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
On a weekend, probably high speed train to Ourense and then switch slower train to Sarria. Then probably a taxi if you are not starting on a weekday when the bus is running.

Yes.
I don't know what date you plan to travel, so I chose a Friday in October. Renfe has a train that leaves Madrid at 10:05 and arrives Sarria at 13:41. Then a taxi should take about half an hour to Triacastela.
There are a couple of later trains that take a bit longer.

I hope I'm not sounding like a broken record. When not familiar with transportation in an area and A to B is not straight forward, research B to A. Often options appear.

Hi, thanks for all the great replies 😊. Considering that we’d be “swimming against the tide”, so to speak, is it likely that we would be able to get a taxi from Sarria to Triacastela fairly early in the morning on a weekday, please?

You might try to book a taxi ahead of your arrival in Sarria. If you do a Google search several possibilities pop up.
Good luck and Buen camino to you both!
