Disappointing news for pilgrims on their way to Santiago.
The Botafumeiro has been taken out of action due to damage to the rope that holds it. It will be out of action for a few weeks.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Again? Wasn't it last year that the botafumeiro was out of service due to repairs? I hope they were able to use it for Pentecost 2007, as in last year when I had the privilege of seeing the thing used *twice* in the span of 3 hours, after waiting for 4 days of no action!

I just returned from Santiago this past Sunday (finished part of the Portugues last week). I can report that as of July 8th, there was a new rope hanging from the ceiling, but still no botafumeiro :-(

And Master Mateo's pillar (and the other two alongside it) was blocked off by metal barricades, I think for restoration or repair.

Bunny,

The botafumeiro doesn't hang in there permanently; they only take it out when it's going to be used. If you hang ;-) around long enough you'll see it flying. Last year I waited 4 days.

LOL I know that... I was hoping it would swing while I was there, but I guess not. Maybe third time's the charm?
