Camino de Faro. Walking partner wanted 6/20/2023

Hello, I really want to walk off of asphalt. I understand the Camino de farro between Finesterre and Lires is beautiful but treacherous. I'm walking solo but would consider walking this route if I had someone to do it with. Anyone interested in tackling this beautiful but challenging route on June 20th?

I don’t think this is a “treacherous” route. I know a number of people who have walked the Camino dos Faros and have not heard any descriptions like that. But I could be wrong and would like to hear from members who have walked it.

I would take a good set of GPS tracks, though, because this trail does not continuously hug the coastline.

I walked it some years ago. Unless something has changed massively, this was a safe route with no dangerous stretches. I wouldn't walk some sections in the dark only because the tracks in some forested areas need some care not to twist an ankle. Nothing more than that.

Just to make sure — @Kimxyz is asking about an alternative to the “regular” camino between Lires and Finisterre. Camiño dos Faros (Route of the Lighthouses in gallego) is a very different path, starting in Malpica and ending in Finisterre, along the Costa da morte.

I ended up staying on the traditional Camino de Santiago routes. It was pretty; not too much asphalt. I felt the need to be able to call, and get help if needed. Thanks

Did you download and activate the AlertCops app? Even without that, if you dial an emergency number, unless you have an extremely ancient handset that you haven't kept updated, it will send a location message to the emergency call centre with your location. This function will override any location settings that would otherwise prevent that happening. That relies on having a mobile service available.

ps there was a long discussion about contacting emergency services earlier this year here.

Hi,
I walked this section between Finisterre and Lires in 2019. It's beautiful and quiet but the signs were sometimes missing and were better in the other direction (I think this camino is designed to end in Finisterre). In some places, the original camino had been diverted due to the growth of some very unpleasant spiny vegetation. I had to look for my way in some places but nothing too bad. If I were to walk this camino again, I would definitely look for some recent GPX tracks. You will probably meet very few hikers (if any) so, depending on your physical condition and your appetite for loneliness, it might be a good idea not to walk this section alone.
I hope you will enjoy the walk, there are numerous amazing spots next to the cliffs edges where you feel there is only the ocean, the sky and you.
