Camino Portugues in October

Hello everyone,

I hope you don't mind that I'm starting a new thread with this. I'm thinking of doing a section of the Camino Portugues this year at the beginning of October, starting from Porto. I read up a bit on the weather and I gather it could be fairly rainy, but I was wondering if anyone has any information or advice. I would also most likely be walking on my own and it would be good to have a sense of whether there are other pilgrims on the road at this time of the year or whether the routes will be fairly deserted.

I was initially planning on taking the Camino Litoral out of Porto and then joining the main route in the vicinity of Rates (I don't have the map in front of me as write, but I recall there was a connection somewhere in that area). Does that sound like a reasonable way to start given the time of year and availability of lodgings?

I am planning to start from Lisbon on about October 10th or so and expect some variation in the weather with some rainy days. But the temperatures loo ideal for the walk. I'm hoping my feet will hold up as my little toes on both feet have been problematic. Silicone tube seems to help. Anyone have any ideas about what else is useful. I'll be walking alone with lots of time for contemplation and introspection. What luxury!

Four Old Guys walking start from Porto on Oct 2nd. I think you will have plenty of company. We are walking up the coast the first day to Vila do Conde, then crossing over to the Central route at Arcos and heading north. We are hoping the rain will be normal this year and not so bad.

We walked it in July; not many pilgrims.

I will be starting out of Porto on October 1. I'll walk the first day along the coast (litoral) and then head inland on the second day to end up at Rates. If you are starting right at the beginning of October, maybe I'll see you.

We arrive in Porto on the First, meet friends and start the walk on the 2nd.

I start from Lisbon on 27 September and plan to meet my sister in Porto on October 12 for the remainder of the way. Looking forward to it!

fyi - I've heard that the weekend of 12 October is a national holiday; one that brings many to the areas of Porto and Vila do Conde. I'm told there could also be some very busy times on the approach to Fatima in October as well - around Tomar for those on the central CP.
