Camino presentation

I will be assisting with a Camino presentation at St. Mary's Cathedral in Portland, Oregon on April 10th. I am looking for a slideshow presentation that would give first timers a sense of the route, its history, some practical information on challenges to expect, lodging, equipment, weather etc. I started working on this and thought I am probably reinventing the wheel (and not very well mind you) and decided I would see what forum members have already done that might suffice. Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Newfydog, many thanks for the quick reply and for sharing your photos etc. I'll try to put it all to good use. Lot's of interest in the Camino out here these days. BTW, your were correct about RP. We will be co-presenting.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi John!

I wish someone would ask me to do a presentation about the Camino because I could go on for ages and there would be no time left for difficult questions! :D

Maybe to give people a sense of the Camino it would be a good idea to make it a very personal presentation rather than taking one 'off the shelf'. Think of a few funny/moving/interesting experiences and build the presentation around them. The who/when/why/where etc can all reveal themselves through your own experience or those of others you've met.

Just an idea, and you obviously know your audience better than I do.

Good luck and Buen Camino!

How great you get to do this! Good luck, I'm sure it will all work out.

I got to do a small presentation as well at our little movie-house before the showing of "The Way". I had no visuals, but I was incredibly excited on both interest and feedback. I simply spoke of my two Caminos (Frances/Norte), my preparation, reasons, highlights, and of course the beautiful people I meet along the way. My presentation was less than a half hour, and it seemed I could have spoke/answered for hours.

Again, good on you for sharing the Camino!

Thanks for all the input. I think I could rattle on for hours about the Camino as well. It is interesting how the word is getting out back here in the States. Certainly the movie, The Way, introduced the Camino to a host of people who had simply never heard of it. Now, I frequently run into one person or another who is planning to walk it. Perhaps we could gin up some interest in routes other than the Camino Frances.

Yes. I still think that although the Frances is one of the longer routes, it's also a good introduction to the Camino for inexperienced walkers like myself. The only other one I've walked is the Ingles, which although much, much shorter is more difficult in some ways (fewer options about where to stay or eat, fewer fellow pilgrims for company and support etc). On paper it should be a great 'trial run' for a longer Camino but I generally wouldn't recommend that, especially for people worried about travelling alone etc. It's lovely, but a very different experience, as I'm sure are the other Caminos that I have yet to enjoy!

Buen Camino!
