CF September 7 - my first Camino

Time of past OR future Camino
CF 2021; 2022 P. Coastal; VF 2023
Orisson is booked for 9/7. Flight is booked. My first Camino - Fingers crossed;. My wife plans to join at some point - probably Santiago and we will continue to Muxia and Finisterre together.

I have one equipment question - given the time of year - September - October - will a sleeping bag be necessary or will just a bag liner suffice? Thanks for any input .

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Just to point out that the date "9/7" will cause confusion. It is a format used mainly in the US. In much of the world it would be 7/9. For me, I never know what is meant (I now use only the standard 2021/09/07) and must look for clues, which you did provide! 🙂

I got confused indeed haha.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I also start on September 7th, but from Logrono as I have previously walked up to and including Logrono from SJPP.

I took a silk sleeping bag liner (very strong and light) in case I end up in an albergue ( I prefer casa rurales, pensiones and hotels) so I never intended taking a sleeping bag.

There is no easy answer as it depends on your choice of accommodation and whether the weather plays along too.

Roll the dice đź‘Ť

Consider bringing a hiking quilt. They weigh less than most sleeping bags. It can be cold at night in an albergue. Many do not supply blankets. You might need it particularly if you stay overnight in any of the three elevated areas on the CF. Search this site for previous discussions and recommendations for them.

Costco usually sells a lightweight down throw blanket in the Autumn, which weighs about 15 ounces. Since @Uky1Cats is leaving for Spain before they normally go on sale perhaps buying one on Amazon would be a good idea. I have cut them in half to make them the size that tucks nicely inside a silk liner, saving even more weight. This one at Amazon is the same brand as those that have been sold at Costco in the past.

My advice unless you are always cold is just use a silk liner. If you are cold you can
always put on some clothes and I you would not use the bag more than a few times. I wouldn’t lug it around. If
By the time you get to Leon it is getting cold you can buy a bag there. Go to Decathlon.
