I walked the Frances this time last year leaving from St J. and it was raining buckets with overflowing rivers and washed out trails etc. Have been checking the weather periodically and it seems milder and dryer this year. For those of you who live on the Frances are you finding that to be the case? Are there any warnings that have been mentioned for the upcoming weeks? Leaving end of February and just wondering how your winter has been so far.
Thanks :)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

It has been reported that Galicia has suffered very heavy rain and flooding in places. Not sure what the situation is now, but expect a lot of wet mud in places....

If you look at the temperatures at the moment it looks quite warm all over the Frances. Even the temps in Irun and Bilbao are fantastic for a walk on the Norte. Not sure if many albergues will be open though.
Going for a walk first week of february. Hope it stays like this :)
I'm gonna let weather decide where to start.

Was on the Frances over Xmas and the new year, it was dry until the 28th December then it started pouring down and did not stop. When I left on the 8th it was still at it.

Thanks for the heads up Mike. Figure it can't be any worse than last year during which I was tempted to add a collapsible canoe to my gear! lol. But it's good to have an idea in advance and I appreciate your reply. Thank you. :)

Hi Dutch.
I noticed the warmer temperatures which was what prompted me to ask how the weather had been so far and if it was likely to last. Have you decided which route to take? I'm curious as this will be my third time on the Frances if I take this route but am curious about the del Norte. Lack of confidence as usual causes me hesitation to make the jump and so likely to go with what I know. But if you do decide on the Norte and if it doesn't interrupt your camino, would you drop a note on the forum as to the conditions? My camino, which ever one I decide on, will start the end of February.
(Sorry forum members. I know this is probably meant to be under the camino del norte link and I apologize in advance).
Buen Camino!

I'll decide this weekend. If its the Norte i will surely tell you what the weathers like. Ive only got a week to ten days this time, but a walk is a walk is a walk :)

I have a friend living in Bilbao and she says weather is very nice at the moment, but this can change at any time.

Not sure what the albergue situation is on the Norte in feb. Open/closed...

It is indeed! Thanks, and whichever you choose I hope you have a wonderful time! :)
