Cycling on the autovia - is that allowed?

Hello, we are an Englishman (George) and an Italian woman (Anna) and we are going to cycle the Camino Frances, starting on mon 13th.
A couple of friends did the camino 5 years ago, and kindly lent us their guidebooks - however I have just realised that those "Old" roads e.g. N111 from Pamplona to Estella now are Autovias (A 12).
Is there a dedicated cycle lane? Is it safe to cycle on an auto via? is there an alternative path? we have road bikes.
Thanks a lot for any advice
Hugs

Join our full-service guided tour of the Basque Country and let us pamper you!
Cycling on the autovia is banned and also, according to the sign seen on our return journey just outside Ribadeo, are donkey carts.
I wish I had had my camera out as the bus went past. :)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

George and Anna,

Although I am no longer a cyclist but a walker for recent information about cycling the Camino Frances including cycle friendly albergues see this Forum thread >> el-camino-frances/topic14864.html#p102710.

Also see below the Forum section Pilgrim Topics Related to all Routes>> Biking the Camino

Buen Camino,

About the only place with no direct alternative but the path is leaving Lognono.
There is road after the bike path, park, and reservoir by taking a slight detour through the vineyards, then connecting to the frontage road that parallels the freeway. A couple of turns at the ramps from Navarette to the freeway, and you head up the road to Navarette.
