Assuming OP is planning on starting CF from SJPDP on April, 5th (4 days AFTER Easter) my guess is he might find himself just behind "The Wave".

I'm interested in the opinions of those who have walked soon after Easter previously. I understand the increased #'s on the path the week before Easter, especially in the 100K mark of Santiago, and an increase of people starting around Easter from popular starting points / larger cities. I'm simply trying to gauge when the wave begins to break after Easter Monday.

Personally the earliest I've ever started is April 1st from Lisbon (2013) and not surprisingly only encountered 3 other Pilgrims until Porto. I'm toying with the idea of either walking out of Pamplona or Seville around April 8th., so any experiences would be educational.

We started walking from Leon just before Holy Week (the week before Easter Sunday) began, and met a number of Spanish families walking. It was not at all crowded-- we were alone in a number of albergues. We missed the big processions as we were in the villages after Astorga -- I regret I didn't time that a bit better-- I'd like to see a procession. On the other hand, maybe that's why we didn't see many people. -- But if I walk again around Easter, I'm going to try and be in one of the bigger cities.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
After Semana Santa this year the CF quietened significantly. I was often the only pilgim in albergues off the Brierley stages.

Aaaahh. You discovered the key. The guidebook is the first of many weights to be discarded, thereby freeing your mind, body, and spirit to embrace all the joys the Camino offers. Peace & Love

April is a great time to walk, plenty of beds , fewer pilgrims until Sarria where many start there pilgrimage, ever then plenty of space .

We started from SJDPP on Easter Monday this year. It was lovely - not too many people but enough around if you needed help. We even got two beds in Orisson without a reservation. Weather was cool in the morning and shirtsleeves by lunch. Perfect- and one day of rain while in the trail 41 days.....

I'm hoping its not too quiet on the Camino Madrid around the 7th April. Like to meet others in the evenings.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
