I am about two days away from Embarse de Alcantara and remember reading about the albergue being closed. I do not know how up to date the information is. My guide (2018 Kelly ) and German Outdoors guide do not mention the closure so I assumed it is open. However, the web site for the albergue is not working (alberguedealcantera.com) so I wonder if it is. If I walk 22 km and find it is not open, I will be in big trouble as there are not much of anything in the area. Has anyone stayed there in the last few days? Can anyone confirm it is open/closed? Thank you in advance.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Delighted that the albergue at Embalse de Alcantara has reopened.I stayed here in 2011 and not long after that I saw it listed in the Guardian Newspaper Travel Section as one of the top 10 best hostals in Europe.I couldn't believe after such a great review that it had closed.Glad to see that it is maintaining the same standards today. It is in a stunning location and the ambiance was very friendly and relaxing.

Open today and with a new manager as of last November. The building is owned by the Junta de Extremadura and they have a license arrangement with a private person. The young man employed here is employed by the licensed. He does everything—cooks (food reported not bad; I haven’t eaten yet), cleans, checks people in, etc.

15€ for bed, breakfast, and laundry. Men and women in separate rooms. Small bottles of beer are1€, which my German beer drinker friends say is very high. Dinner, I think, is 10€.

At least four people that I know of must have missed the turn-off because they never arrived. As you are walking on the side of the highway next to reservoir, keep an eye out after you pass the entrance for the Tajomar nautical club. It’s right before the spot where the camino is about to take you off the highway on the right side. The entrance is on the left, a few hundred meters down the road. Sign says Albergue Turístico.

I am bumping this thread up to the top. (And I also removed the question mark and made the title a statement rather than a question).

On a recent Live from the Vdlp thread, there was confusion about the albergue at the embalse de Alcántara, which is in between Casar de Cáceres and Cañaveral. It makes a good stage from Cáceres if you like 30 km, or shorter from Casar de Cáceres.

It is definitely open, the guy with the contract who is in charge can be contacted via whatsapp at 34 664 26 27 42 (C Clearly has confirmed that it’s fine to post the number). They take reservations.

Highly recommended place.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
