Finding an albuergue in April

Time of past OR future Camino
planned for Spring 2016
I am planning to walk the Camino Frances in April 2016 with a friend. I recently was told that I will have a difficult time finding lodging and need to make reservations ahead of time. Is this false information? We were not planning to have a set itinerary so that we could enjoy the countryside, villages and people without the feeling that we need to walk xxx miles per day just to get to our lodging reserved for that evening. Obviously our plan will change to a more rigid schedule if necessary.

Any insight or thoughts would be appreciated.

Excited!!!

I walked in the March/April time frame several of the last few years. I have never had a difficult time finding lodging. Easter week does get more crowded but was always able to find accommodation. Easter is early this year so that will not be a factor.

Plan to be there again this year.

Thank you for your replies. I was very suprised by the assertion made by a well meaning friend but felt it better to ask those who had actually done the journey. :) Thanks.

I would class that as false information. Many Albergues are open most of the year, some do not open until holy week. There is a wealth of accommodation along the Camino Frances. This http://www.gronze.com/camino-de-santiago/caminos/guia-del-camino-frances should offer all the assurance and information you might need.
Hi my Girlfriend and I are in the same situation: We are in our mid 60's and on the advice of others chose to do our Comino in April, May. Mostly to allow for the cultural parts of the Comino(churches, historical, and the people of Spain). I looked into places in SJPP through booking.com to find a few sites saying they will sellout in hours? The link you provided is great, my Spanish is not to good but attempting to get better. Does the site translate to english? Again thanks for the link and putting us at ease.

Angelhart, I use Google Chrome (tm) among others, as a search engine. It will provide an automatic translation, if it doesn't check your settings (or do what I do and ask a 12 year old to do this for me).

We have walked at Easter seven times. TWICE we've come to a filled hostel. Once we walked 100 m to the very cheap hotel around the corner, the second time we ended up walking 4 km to the next village.

There will most probably be space, and if not, a little extra money solves all problems...
