Hi,
Just thought that I'd share the walking experience that I had yesterday. The UK was being battered by 50-60 mph winds, and my wife and I decided to set off on what turned out to be a 9 miler.
We walked predominately through wooded areas (which was quite exciting with the high winds!) but it was suprisingly good fun.
I couldn't help thinking that some of the weather that I will encounter on next May's camino could be similar to this. But . . . with the right kit and a positive attitude, even less than perfect walking weather should be a great experience.
ps 149 days to go :):):)

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
My last day on the John Muir Way in Scotland I had the wind, reain and snow hitting me horizontally - Now that was fun! May on the Camino is generally much more benign. Buen Camino! SY

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I've hardly ever encountered winds abroad like we can get here in the UK. Having said that, when we got to Muxia in May it was blowing a gale from the north, straight off the sea, just like at home. We couldn't make it to the the 'boat' on the beach, and we're used to mountains.

Apart from that, and a head wind and rain one day on the meseta on that long 13km bit with no cafes or shelter, we had perfect weather for our Camino Frances in April/May earlier this year. Didn't even rain a drop in Galicia.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

SYates, would you mind sending me a PM regarding your lodging experience on the John Muir? I am tentatively planning for next Sept; dates not set yet. Appreciate it…Maggie

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

PS In short, in summer (wild) camping is allowed and a budget option. In this colder time of the year I paid between 30 and 65 GBP for BnB/simple hotel accommodation. SY
