Camino Frances (March 2015)
Hi everyone :) I'm from rural NSW (about four hours from Sydney), 42 year-old female. I am walking my first camino next March (Camino Frances) and am very excited. Just wanted to say how much I love reading these forums and all the helpful information everyone has posted. I have been pouring over it for days! I will be doing my walk solo and still need to train up a bit. I love walking but have never done 20k or more in a day so this will be a challenge, however it feels right. It's almost like I've been "called" to do it and have been dreaming of this for a long time now. Thanks for reading and thanks for having this website too, it's amazing.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi C.C.

Where in NSW are you? I too am in rural NSW about 4 hours from Sydney, in the central west.

Love to see some photos from you two, in the "Where I walked today" thread. I've lived in Bathurst, Orange and Goulburn and think the central west of NSW is beautiful.

Hi Alan - I live in Orange. Moved here just over a year ago as I'm originally from Sydney. Good to see fellow Central Westerners on the forums :)

Hi Kanga - yes I agree it's a very beautiful part of NSW. I tend to walk a lot more here than I did in Sydney because of the beauty. Love the colours in Autumn! Bathurst and Goulburn are gorgeous, I have relatives living in both places. I didn't even notice the "Where I Walked Today" thread (was too busy looking at all the others). Will have to check it out.

Hello again

I will be in Orange on Friday for my annual visit to a specialist [just a part of aging, nothing serious]. Would you like to catch up over a coffee in the afternoon sometime? My appointment is for 12.30 so I should be finished by 2 PM!

Thank you, that would be great Alan! I'm free in the afternoon so 2pm (or thereabouts) sounds good. Do you have a particular place you like to have coffee in Orange? If you don't, Scrumptious On Summer is a good spot.

Welcome CaminoCruiser now you tell us you have been spending some serious time on the forum and that the camino is calling you. So just go for it 20k is respectable distance, take a nice and easy pace and remember your adventure has already begun!
Buen camino CaminoCruiser.

Scrumptious on Summer it is. I will be wearing a black jacket with red lining and Cowra Wine Show in red letters. Looking forward to chatting about the camino [my favourite passtime ].

Wonderful! I look forward to meeting you Alan and thanks again for your generosity. My name is Ana (apologies, I meant to introduce myself properly in my original post). I will look out for you on Friday and I will be wearing blue jeans and a red quilted jacket.

See you then!

Buen camino CaminoCruiser.

Thank you Pilgrim b, your advice is appreciated. As a first-time walker I don't plan on overdoing it - that would just be silly. I want to enjoy the walk and take my time. God willing, I will hopefully make it all the way to Santiago.

Welcome, and thumbs up for registering, I was new way back in 2007. Enjoy planning & anticipation, it only gets better.
Buen Camino

Thank you crackmrmac! The planning and anticipation are what keeps me going each day, I love pouring over the maps and seeing what other people have experienced.

C.C,
Welcome to the Forum! You are in good company with all the NSW Forum members that hail from there. My last time in NSW was as a Marine on R&R in 1968. I loved Sydney, the Gap (someone actually drove off on the ocean side while I was there). I travelled by train to Wilberforce and then on to a resort located on the Orange. In that I was among the first Marines to arrive there there were few times I had to buy a beer, especially at the SSidney Rugby Club and the Reserve Forces clubs.

And those of us across the border in the ACT aren't too bad either! We have a fairly active Friends of the Camino group that meets regularly at the Australian-Spanish Club. I generally put a note in this forum advising about meetings.

A warm welcome to you! I'm Josie from Adelaide. My friends and I are doing our Camino in September 2015. Best of luck with your training and will look forward to hearing all about it here in the forum. Buen Camino!

Thank you for the welcome Arn! Glad you enjoyed Sydney and rural NSW when you were here. I hope the beer was worth the trip!

Ah, The Gap. I think they've put up a reinforced fence in the last couple of years to try and stop all the suicides & accidents. There used to be an elderly man living near there who would keep an eye out for any lost souls, and he'd run over and try to talk them out of jumping. It's such a beautiful area though.

Camino Cruiser, my Latin was 40 years ago and so it's long forgotten...pelle timorum? o_O Hmmm...in modern idiom "banish fear and just do it?" (A totally wild and ignorant guess...) It means??

Brilliant! Perfect for all of us!! Virgil?
While on the road (and not on 'good' days) I sometimes think of Dante, on his way down to the whatever level of hell he was descending into--saying "Uhhh...Virgil? Is there another way? Or...?? " and Virgil basically saying "The only way out is in...keep going!"

Hi Annie! I remember meeting you at the 7th February meeting. Fantastic day! I got to meet so many lovely people including Julie, @JennyH94 and @Saint Mike II which was incredible. Lots of laughs and great conversation - one of the best days out I've ever had. I hope to get to more of those in the future. Thank you for your kind words, I set off on March 19th and start walking March 24th. Can't wait!!!

By the way, CC...when do you start? I'll be off on the 10th.......eeek.......8 days from now!

I will be a fair bit behind you then, I don't start walking until March 24th. You never know though, our paths might very well cross! Only eight days to go for you..wow! I'm thrilled for you, please have a safe journey :)
