Hoka Hiker: Sky-line Float X

I'm not sure I'd like that split heel but I would be interested to see how the Vibram soles hold up. I'm not planning on buying them at this point but maybe if a forum member tries them they can leave a review here.

I hiked in a pair of Hoka Speedgoats. The shoes worked fine, but the soles are shredded. I won’t be able to wear them on any more hikes. I’ve heard this is a problem with the Vibram sole on Hokas.

I did the Inglés in Anacapas this spring. The soles look like these, and I had very minimal wear on mine. My partner had killed a pair of Stinsons on the Frances before I joined him, so I brought him a fresh pair of Speedgoats...he destroyed those on the Inglés and the week in Bordeaux after that.

I have worn either Speedgoats or Challengers on my Caminos, and can usually get at least 400 miles out of them.

His issue was not only the breakdown of the sole, but how painful the breakdown of rhe inner structure became. He's currently wearing Altras as his daily walker, but hasn't completely given up on Hoka.

I really liked the Anacapas and at the moment am planning on upgrading them a little to a men's version (wider toe box) and going to the Breeze rather than the Goretex (breathability). I also wear Clifton8 as my work shoes and I live in the flips.

This one is a contender, though...I'm pondering the thicker sole and 8mm drop though
(Anacapa is 6mm).

Good to know. Both my husband and I are going to use the Anacapa Breeze in Portugal in September. I will report back.

The Skyline Float X looks interesting too! I didn't have that choice, but the drop is more, so it would be interesting to see how that would feel. The Skyline also has less cushion than the Anacapa, which I wouldn't want, since I will be walking on a lot of hobblestone in Portugal!

Walked the Camino Primitivo and San Salvador in HOKA Speedgoats V5. No issue with Vibram soles …somewhere around 435kms. Have had 6 pairs of HOKA Bondi’s (now v8) my shoe for city walking and recent PEI Walk 580kms…no issues. Usually get somewhere around 1,000 kms max.

I had an excellent experience with the HOKA Stinson ATR 6 on the Camino Frances (including Finesterre and Muxia). I still where them occasionally for walking the neighborhood two years later. I also wore them for hiking parts of Hadrian's Wall and all around Portugal. On the Coast-to-Coast I wore HOKA Sky Kaha Hiking Boots (fantastic boot for hiking more difficult terrain and variable weather, possibly overkill for the Camino). Not sure why others wore out their HOKAs. I'm looking forward to the HOKA Stinson ATR 7.

Vibram soles come in different material configurations and their abrasion factors may vary as well. I am wearing Hoka as well. and they are my favorite shoes. Having said that most hiking shoe soles have similar properties. How a person walk, such as walking pattern and biomechanics are most often are the determining factors. If you are shuffling or have a heavy heel strike or over pronating or supinating than the shoes would wear out faster. Some people just heavy on their shoes.
