12) HOW TO DRY WET BOOTS

I forgot to add this vital piece of advice:
The BEST way to dry soaked boots is with a haidryer.

Are we to assume you carry a hair dryer on the Camino?

NO!! But after 2 days of torrential rain I had to book into a Hostal where I first stuffed my completely soaked boots with paper and then got the paper out and dried them with the very handy hairdryer. I eventually stuffed them again with dry paper and they were dry the next morn'.
It's a time-consuming business, but it DOES work!!!
Buen Camino Peregrino!

You found a hostal with a hairdryer !!!!!!!!!!!!!

You found a hostal with a hairdryer !
I stayed in an albergue in Cee after a day of torrential rains. Other pilgrims were using the wall mounted hand dryer to dry boots. After about half an hour, the circuit breaker blew and darkness fell on the albergue! It took an hour to restore power because building maintenance had to be called.

But, yes; I have been in quite a few hostales with hair dryers. I don't think I was lucky enough to be able to use the dryers for my boots.

I have encountered pilgrims with hair dryers several times. They were "repeat offenders" who were preparing for wet boots. Clever if you can tolerate the weight.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The wisdom on drying boots that has been handed down to me is not to put them too near to heat sources as this can cause them to crack and split. Have those of you who have used hairdryers on them had any problems?

I always heard that advice as well. I believe it was a fact of live when boots where made 100% from natural leather with sewn-on soles. However, I wonder (or maybe doubt) that that is true given the construction of most modern boots with mesh panels, synthetic materials, and molded-on soles.

I had NO problems at all after several times drying my leather boots with a hairdryer.
Walked two Caminos with them and if it hadn't been for broken inner seams, I would still use them.
Buen Camino,
