I am a clumsy idiot

Al the optimist

Veteran Member
Walking in a Madrid park on Sunday I slipped on some wet leaves on some steps and look what happened! I think that I am looking forward to next year as this year has been an unfortunate one - bit by a dog, a fall cutting my knee followed by injuring my ankle (three days running on the Salvador ) resulting in a heel spur. Now this!

As to Albertinho's: "All things exist out of three ones " free translated a Dutch saying"

Well, sød that for a game of marbles but if so I am taking my bullous pemphigoid + consequent anaemia plus the then resulting lung infection as being all three wrapped in one. So that's sorted that saying!

Roll on 2015, Al, says I for both you and me.

Hope you recover quickly Al. Pity it wasn't Parque Oeste in Wolverhampton - you could probably have sued the council to pay for your next Camino. ;)

Clumsy perhaps my friend.
Idiot no!
Just one question......... Is that a before or after photograph:rolleyes:
Speedy recovery fella, on all fronts.
LOL. 2 days after John. Some might think it an improvement though! :) Still it will be a conversation starter over the festive season, and I am sure I will have to endure jokes about taking some water with my drink! Actually maybe that is the solution - get drunk and stay that way as all of the incidents have been during the day when completely sober!

Looks painful. At least it won't hamper your walking.

Oh no! What an absolute bummer! Maybe we need to wrap you in bubble wrap! Hope you aren't in too much pain. Get well soon.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
@Al the optimist you are going to have the most spectacular black eye! Photo the progress please - I envision it turning a ghastly shade of green before it goes. So sorry, though, that you have been hurt, and hope the pain goes quickly. As to the long term effect on your glamourous good looks - well.....

There are some posts where just to 'like' is such the wrong response. This is one of them. I am sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Oh no, it looks nasty Al! Get yourself over to the Westin Palace Hotel for the best Sangria in Spain (imho), 2 or 3 will numb the pain :)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Al, you are not the only one. This year, a couple of kilometres short of Portomarin i tripped over a branch on the trail. I fell face first on a rock (flat). There was blood all over. I ended with both black eyes and 3 stitches in the forehead. We walked a couple of kilometres to the next village and Wonder woman (the wife) managed to get a taxi. A doctor patched me up in Portomarin and I rested all afternoon. I had a pretty bad headache, still next day I managed to walk.
So don't worry, you are not the only one and it is probably better if it happens in Madrid than on the trail.

Smooth talker! Thanks for the flattery. :)
Thank you all for the kind words but I am a fast healer and already have stopped looking like Herman Munster. :(

Strongly recommend a winter preparation of playing Tiddlywinks ( but well padded ones ) to develop co-ordination and upper body strength followed by an early Spring build up of juggling with balls of yarn ( but only 1 at a time ) to build up arm strength then 4 weeks of 20 mile a day walks to over compensate for months of sloth and you'll be raring to go.

Al, I just wrote one of my best "...Dr is IN:" responses on your situation. Then, I thought to myself...is it fair to dig the hole even deeper when Al has done such a bang up job himself. "NO"...I replied. So, I hope your recovery proceeds a pace and that you have the merriest of Holy Days and a less accident prone New Year.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Arn, your internal dialogue is always entertaining!

Al, feel better soon. Spain - the cause of - and solution to - all of Al's problems :)

Yay.... Life is Good....!! :)

Hi all, I’m starting my Camino Frances on May 12. I’ve booked my first night in SJPDP, but I’m starting to worry I need to book more. My plan was to take it day by day and just turn up, but lots...
Hello all. Here to give a brief account of my (and many others) first day on the Camino on May 1. The trip to Roncesvalles was tough. I went Valcarlos route because napoleon was very ill advised...
Or do you prefer Cromwell's attitude? Put your trust in God and keep your powder dry. I am starting to get tired of the attitude that it isn't necessary to take reasonable care and thought...
I struggle with social anxiety and I was wandering if anybody with the same issue had a positive experience on the Camino walking alone. I saw lots of posts and videos people talking about forming...
I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
Money stolen from bag on bed while sleeping. Estelle municipal hostel. Not a big inconvenience as my passport and credit cards were left.
