It being Monday, They will hit the 300,000 by this coming weekend.

I wonder if the newspapers or TV will be there. At this time of year, with only a couple hundred arrivals daily, it is possible to know with certainty which arriving pilgrim is "the one."

If anyone learns of anything in celebration, please post it here. It truly is a huge number.

I keep telling them when they are ther3 to assume continued growth and a spike in the coming Holy Year in 2021. With annual increases or 10 percent or more over the previous year, the next Holy YEar total arrival number could surpass 400,000 and likely 450,000 too.

It is one of the reasons they moved into the much larger office complex at the end of 2015.

Yikes!

My husband and I visited Santiago as tourists in 2005. I remember noticing the handful of pilgrims wearily walking through the plaza headed towards the cathedral. The key words here are "noticed" and "handful". They were sprinkled in among the many others in town, who were there for reasons other than having walked a couple hundred miles on the Camino. Pilgrims were certainly not the dominant presence.

I also recall water gourds hanging from their wooden staffs. I noticed all this because I had read of the Camino, and thought someday I would like to do this myself.

What a different world from the one I expect to walk in to next spring. We've replaced our water gourds with hydration systems, platypus bladders, Nalgene bottles. Our wooden staffs are now ergonamic Pacer poles. A handful has grown to 300,000.

Times change.

apparently, fewer than 16.000 pilgrims requested their Compostela in 1994 (when i walked my first Camino) - and yet i still feel the love/magic despite the numbers.

Change is a constant...it frequently presents challenges. The question is how well we all adapt and overcome the challenges...

Part of me laments the growing popularity of the Camino de Santiago, writ large. However, I am pleased that more people can share this life changing experience. Everyone is affected in a different manner and to a different degree. However, everyone is affected.

I shall adapt and overcome...

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
This is the first time I’ve seen a Pilgrim total, does anyone know what the total was for 2016?
