This post is aimed at those people who have decided to do the Norte, but for some reason or another are thinking of skipping the week in the Basque country. Pictures speak louder than words. The pictures below (there are quite a few) are a fair reflection of what is to be expected in terms of the views and the surface you'll be walking on. It was the last week in March 2016, which I think is a lovely time to be on Camino.

I hope someone out there doing their research finds this post useful.

I return to Bilbao next Sunday to continue where I left off.... I hope that Cantabria will live up to the beautiful experience I had in the Basque Country......

Guides that will let you complete the journey your way.
Thank you Niall, this is very timely for me. I'll be following in your footsteps next month - walking to Bilbao and returning in September to walk some more.

I also plan to walk from Saint Jean to Luz to Hondarribia after arriving in Biarritz. Really looking forward to it!

Hi Niall
Great pictures
I have about a week next May and am planning on walking the first part of the camino del norte. From reading on the site and looking at your great pictures I think I may start on the Sentier littoral Basque. Can you tell me did you walk on the Sentier littoral as far as Hondarribia and then go onto the norte or did you continue around the coast? I am thinking with limited time this might be the approach I take but I am not sure really as know little about this coastal route. Also if starting in St jean de Luz is there somewhere to get a crecential here or did you get it elsewhere/in advance

Thanks
Conor
