last 100K on CF

Hi trying to help a local charity organise a Camino next May. The time they have is limited and some of the group would only be able to walk a maximum of around 12K a day . They are looking at walking the last 100K of the CF . Is it permissible to start the camino from any of the towns after Sarria as long as they are at least 100k from SdC as opposed to Sarria, which appears to be 114k, and still be eligible for credential from the Pilgrims Office .

Also any recommendation for company that could transport a group of 20 from SdC to the starting point of our Camino ( Sarria or whatever)

There is nothing special about Sarria except that it is the closest town to the 100km mark with good transport links and infrastructure for pilgrims. Before the 100km rule was introduced Sarria was simply another town on the route with no particular significance.

You could also start from Lugo, and join the Frances at Melide or Papas de Rai (following the older route). Very pretty and Lugo is a wonderful wonderful starting point.

It is … but I think the issue would be that the OP said the group can walk a max of around 12 kms per day and so they will need accommodation at or near those intervals, unless they are being transported off the path each evening. A start in Lugo would involve longer stages.

When my wife and I walked in 2016, the 100k marker was just before Morgade. I seem to recall that some people have suggested that since there has been some re-marking of the route, Ferreiros qualifies, but I would want to confirm that with the Pilgrim Office and not take it on face value. When I have asked about things like this, they respond fairly quickly, within a day or so.

There are lots of companies that drop off pilgrims at the 100km point (Morgade and/or Ferrieros). I saw one maybe 8 (?) passenger van with the number 639 62 82 62

Either way it’s only a 15 min drive so you could use one driver as a shuttle or hire multiple cans to get you there.

Almost all the albergues will have numbers of local drivers. You could probably just arrange it day of.

Also, as far as the 100km min. The stamps you collect at Morgade, Ferrieros, and Restaurante Mirallos have the km right on the stamp, so there is no confusion. But make sure you get a stamp before you start walking to show you met the 100k m. For example, don’t get out the cab and walk to Portomarin before getting a stamp!

Just to confirm: Both Morgade and Ferreiros are starting points of the Camino Francés that you can select as such in the online registration form when you eventually apply for your Compostelas. Both are the starting points that are closest to Santiago and still qualify for a Compostela.

Obviously, Portomarín is not in the online list of starting points of the Camino Francés!

Starting from Morgade or Ferreiros would be one whole walking day less for the group than starting from Sarria.

I’m taking the slow and interesting route as well from Sarria. Taking nine days with stops in some of your locations. Would be interested in hearing about your experiences.

I stayed at Albergue Casa Cruceiros de Fereiros
the next morning it was perhaps 1km (if that) to KM 100 Marker proper. A gent in "Casa La Cancera" in A Pena provides the stamp which can adequately prove the start if you indeed decided to start there.
Mordade, Fereiros and Mirallos will all qualify as they are before the A Pena

@MightyFree I think you’re referring to driving from Sarria to Morgade, that it would be a short drive?

Just wanted to drop in the clarification for others that shuttling from SdC to Sarria would be at least 1 hour 30 minutes.

Thanks, I have booked private rooms for each stage, Morgade, portmarin, ventas de naron, Palas de rei, melide, Arzua, A Sal eda, O Pedrouzo and Lavacolla. I’d be interested on any sights you visited along the way and any restaurants that were particularly good. Im a little of a history buff and will visit as many churches and ancient sites as my legs will get me to. So although my stages are short I expect a lot of off trail expeditions.
