Late arrival in SJPP, where to stay?

Walking my first Camino in a few weeks! I've booked a train to arrive in SJPP at 22h30. The few albergues I've checked online in SJPP don't allow late check-in to keep quiet for the other guests (respect this greatly!). I want to prebook my bed to prevent walking around in the dark to find a room, potentially tired and hungry. Did read that the Pilgrims office will already be closed at this time.

1. Any recommendations for accommodations? Would prefer an inexpensive albergue, but would be fine with a moderately priced hotel, too...

2. Is it worth changing my train plans from Madrid? I'll already have been there for a few days so jet lag should be less of an issue...

Any help? Thank you in advance, I've found this forum very helpful!

Sarahlynne,

Here are three separate listings from the SJPdP Office de Tourisme for
pilgrim albergues, hotels and chambres d'hotes in SJPdP itself.
Use these lists to find and book direct at either a hotel or chambre d'hote.

However if you can not find a room to book remember that in the past in Saint-Jean the office for the Amis du Chemin de Saint Jacques at 39 rue de la Citadelle usually stayed open for the arrival of the last train. Their telephone is 05 59 37 05 09. Why not call them from Bayonne before you board that last train and ask for their assistance?

January 2010 all trains were VERY late due to ice on the tracks; I telephoned from Bayonne and was warmly welcomed and able to sleep in their office on a very ad hoc 'bunk' thanks to the gracious volunteers...Such is the serendipity of the camino!

Good luck and Buen Camino,

Margaret Meredith

Before I arrived in St Jean Pied de Port, I booked http://www.espritduchemin.org/en I had a good stay there, the hosts and all pilgrims were so nice and warm :) It was good thing for me, first time in Camino and first time in Europe also. You can book ahead and tell them that you'll arrive late. Buen Camino

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.
