Who likes taking their smelly old shoes and socks off and walking barefoot in the ocean for an hour or two?
I know I do!!!
I'm so glad I opted for the Camino del Norte as my first camino; it's so beautiful.
Today, for example, a couple of k's out of Comillas there was a lagoon on the right but no beach to be seen. So I took the small footpath marked " Peligroso " and followed the edge of the lagoon right around till I came to the fantastic beach, one of 2 or 4 before you arrive at San Vicente del Barquera. Another stunner that comes to mind is the endless walk( literally hours!) along the fine white sand beach into Soto (?) where you get the ferry across to Santander ------ am I making you envious, Smallest_Sparrow?
I can't help enthusing over it all right now; I've got the Camino ( del Norte ) Bug

so though clenched teeth I suggest looking for the Bufones once past La Franca, keeping in mind @SYates translation of Peligroso...funny, I thought it meant too appealing to possibly pass up come look

... not to mention the beach in the cool May seawater towards Noja after a long days walk passing El Brusco! That's heaven!

If you haven't passed it, stay at the donativo alberque just at Tapia, it is right on a cliff, some young German guys put their tent outside, it is fantastic, there is a beach right below.
