Hi Angela, love to hear from you as you walk - keep us posted with a "live from the camino" thread. Have a good flight over and enjoy the journey. See you back in Sydney!

Join our full-service guided tour and let us convert you into a Pampered Pilgrim!
Stay in a pilgrim gite, and you will meet fellow pilgrims within minutes. If you dine out the first evening, look for fellow pilgrims and ask to join them. The worst that can happen is that they so "no," or indicate that they are not pilgrims. Ask someone else. Being bold on the first day of a bold experience will serve you well. You will find very little rejection on the Camino, so don't worry about it. After all, rejection is more about them than you! ;)

Perfect response!
Honestly - you will meet people on the train traveling into SJPP. You will meet people standing in line at the Pilgrim's Office. You will meet people in your albuergue and at dinner and in the morning as you leave town. Peregrinos are obvious. Packs and sticks and a slightly lost look the first couple of days. Say Hola Peregrino/a! As you pass and approach with a smile. Stop and ask anyone resting if they are OK and chat for a few. Remember that only the most naive are on the Frances for solitude. 99% of your fellow peregrinos are also looking to meet new friends. It is a HUGE part of the experience.

Thanks Falcon, this will be my 12th walk now but I still feel nervous leaving Sydney on my own. Thanks for reminding me that it's a different world on the Camino.
