I am always looking for a way to break the guide books, detours, walkabouts, deviations well changes in program, reading on the Cistercians, history and architecture, and what do I find? Situated only 7.5 km off the Camino from Estella? Nothing less then the Monasterio Santa Maria de Iranzu. Has anyone visited this marvelous place? Google Earth shows only a trudge next to the road N 120 due north of Estella. The hours are available on the website below. Is there accomodation there for pilgrims? 7.5 km is an easy jaunt, 15 back and forth plus some hours to admire the monastery but would be much more pleasant to stay there and come back next morning

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Scruffy,

I have never visited the Iranzu monastry but it is on my bucket list for my 10th CF! Open all year their web site offers a Hospederia with either individual cells/rooms or dorm facitilties. They also offer full board. Sounds good doesn't it ?

Wow, looks beautiful! Have to look into it whenever we get back there (soon I hope :) )

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I cannot decided whether it is a good thing to make these little treasures public knowledge, will it now stay as precious as it is?

I don't think it will hurt at all. Most pilgrims do not have the time to take a lot of side trips while doing the Camino. Some would not even if they had the time. There were some towns I would have liked to see when we walked our Camino, but we were not sure if we would have the time until we were done :(

That place was abandoned for hundreds of years and it was only relatively recently (1942) that was restored and reopened. If it offers lodging or services to the public then it is a wonderful idea to spread the word. After all, that is the mechanism by which so many wonderful towns and villages sprung up around the Camino de Santiago economy. I think it would be a blessing to spread the word!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
