Much Gratitude

Time of past OR future Camino
Next - 2025
I am a solo 60 yo female walker. This is my third Camino.
Sadly on Friday, with 600km down from Pamplona, between Triacastella and Sarria, with Santiago in sight, I did some involuntary acrobatics on a slimey Galician hill!
Short story, I’m Day 3 in Lugo hospital with two breaks to my left leg, waiting to be flown home to Australia when ready.
This post is to extend my infinite gratitude to the incredible anonymous pilgrims who helped me in so many ways... from immediate first aid, to keeping me warm and out of shock, to helping get paramedics, phone calls and walking back to Triacastella!! etc etc. The accident is unfortunate, but seriously the kindness and generously of total strangers who I will never see again, or be able to thank, is just totally overwhelming! I just can’t imagine what I would have done without you all, and I do hope at least one of you is reading this!! THANKYOU SO VERY MUCH!
(Second message is don’t ever consider walking without travel insurance!)
Buen Camino everyone- Ultreia!

Jen: Super attitude! Although, I'm certain it was (is) extremely challanging to keep keep things positive.
Also agreed on travel insurance. It's inexpensive for what it can provide. My wife spent a week in Johannesburg hospital with leg blood clot and flew us home Air France Business so she could elevate. More than that, they got us out of an isolated Botswana town - quickly! They have the logistics in place.
Best for your recovery!
PS: werre you using trekking poles?

How awful Jennifer...really feel for you & wish you all the very best.
@Ell from South Africa fell on the Via Francigena in Tuscany a few days ago & has possibly broken her ankle...she must return home.
A timely reminder to us all currently on the trail, wherever that may be...tread carefully, things can happen so quickly & easily.
Take care & safe travels for the long haul home 🇦🇺 when you're released from hospital.

We were two of the pilgrims that walked past you on that patch. Indeed, there was nothing for us to do as the ambulance was already on the way. The lady with the space blanket deserves a special thank you, she had the first aid well in hand in my humble opinion.

Get well, and recover. The Camino will be ready again when you are.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
So sorry this happened to you and I wish you a speedy recovery. You have a wonderful attitude of gratitude that's an example for us all, and will certainly help in the healing process. The photo is a picture of true pilgrim caring. May all those Camino angels who helped you out be blessed.

So sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident. But it’s also good to hear that other pilgrims were so helpful. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. Remember the Camino will be here when you are ready to return.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

Yes, was using poles... but it was my fault.. I turned to take a photo almost at top of a slippery hill!

Sorry I have only just seen your post! Thanks so very much for your good wishes...and yes the space blanket lady was a Camino Angel. I hope to be back to continue from where I fell in May '23. All the best to you. Buen Camino
