Must sees and do's

Hi all,
Thanks for all the info over the months of prep, everything coming together with training and gear.
I am keen to find out people's top spots to stop and look at and even great accomodation for cultural experiences.
I leave 1 June SJPDP and plan to arrive 10 July Santiago walking alone mainly.
Also
If I have a few hours to spare at biarrritz should I check this town out have a swim or check out Bayonne before arriving in SJPDP evening 30 May ????( will have about 6hrs I guess then hoping to share transport to SJPDP)

The wonderful thing about the camino is that there is so much to see and do. The other wonderful thing is we all walk our own camino. You'll love it or I hope you will. Buen camino.

4. The Wine Fountain, Irache
5. Meeting Andrew from Coventry at Fromista (walking the Way on crutches)
6. The Meseta
7. The stunning Cathedral's along the Way: Leon, Astorga etc. etc.
8. The peacefulness of Samos and tranquillity of La Faba (I'm sure I met Gandalf up there)
9. The goose-pimples I felt watching the botafumeiro
10. All the life-long friends I have made from all over the world.

I could have made this list 'top 100 highlights, but its a starter

Thanks, Davie, for tapping into some of my own special memories with your great "starter" list of Camino favorites! I'll finally be walking through the Meseta this spring (last time I had to bus through due to time) and sure hope I can add it to my favorites, but not so sure!

Numerous people will think me weird mentioning the Meseta as a favourite. But I live on the edge of 'The Ridgeway' not far from Avebury, where I prepare for walking. The landscape is very similar and reminded me of what I had at home - the only difference is the 11 months of rain

I don't think you're weird! I read people either love or hate the Meseta...I just hope I'm one of those who will love it as you do!

Albergue in Roncesvalles, because I will always remember my "first"

Burgos...at the start of the Meseta

Leon...at the end of it

Puente la Reina (the bridge is iconic)

Cacabelos ... the wine. Did I mention the wine? Mencia grapes and Bierzo Region...and then there is the wine.

O Cebriero probably spelled it wrong but this celtic village deserves a good look. Also the local cows soft cheese covered with local honey with roasted almonds and a glass of Albariño.

The exact spot where I caught my first glimpse of the cathedral in SdC I always go there no matter which route I take.

Molinaseca a restaurant called Casa Ramon where I spent three hours discussing food and wine with the owner and was not handed a billl afterwards.

The pilgrims blessing in Triacastella stood out for me. The priest had a sense of humour and really made everyone from everywhere feel comfortable.

Almost every memory is a special one but absolutely no place or no thing can compare to the people you meet and the intense friendships that form. Nothing.

Ah Biarritz!! They have yearly surfing contests, Rocher de la Vierge (that one can walk to and actually be at the oceans edge without getting wet), the Great Casino on the beach, a lovely walkway all around the waters edge, which goes a fair distance. This coast is a breathtaking coast! You spoke of swimming....it has many beaches, open and secluded from the huge waves, plus Napoleon built a summer place for his wife which is now a hotel, overlooking the water. The church has a lovely square which overlooks the water. A russian orthodox church also exists here. Restaurants are a bit pricey but very good cuisine. The feu d`artifice are phenomenal as they are displayed upon the water which changes the color of the waves. Yes, definitely a place to see if you love the water!!!

Come and spend the night in Biarritz, hang out at the marche with the local, walk on the beaches and then spend some time in Bayonne the next morning before getting on the train/bus to SPdP, you will not regret it.

I stayed at Le Petit in Leon and loved it. My room even had a private terrace with small table and chairs. It was also close to the cathedral.

If I may make a suggestion, don't focus on the finish........ at all.
Focus on the Now every moment of every day......
Smell the roses all the way...

It's all over before you know it and that old saying, the journey IS the destination must have been written for the Camino
