Hi all,

Just having a nervous breakdown here, or it might just be last minute jitters lol.

Only a week to go and then the walk of my life.
I haven't trained enough, have i packed everything I need? have I packed too much? What if i get ill, injured, hungover and unable to walk any further? What if I argue with the people I'm walking with, or am just having a bad day? What if my ipod stops or my camera breaks? Oh yeah and the major one...... Weather, weather, weather!

I think thats all I have to worry about for no reason!

I know the feeling. I have 5 days to go and between trying to remember everything and trying to get all the non-Camino loose ends tied up before I go, I think the biggest emotion I will feel when I get on the plane is relief. Then I all I can do about anything I forgot to do is shrug and say, "Oh well". Looking forward to it. :)

You are still entraped within what you think is reality - a whole different and wonderous reality is waiting for you and it is very close. Too much gear? Leave it on the table at an albergue someone might need it. Forgot something? Spain is a modern country almost anything you want is available. Ill or injured there are doctors in Spain, the closest available posted in every albergue. Cannot walk? Rest oover a day. Your ipod breaks? Say thank you God for this your finest blessing. Camera? Easily replaced. Weather? Can't do much to change that in any case so no sense OMG'ing. I leave you with a small bit of my favorite Camino poem which is not about the Camino at all but very relevant for you now:
When you set out for Ithaka (Santiago)
ask that your way be long,
full of adventure, full of instruction.
The Laistrygonians and the Cyclops,
angry Poseidon - do not fear them:
such as these you will never find
as long as your thought is lofty, as long as a rare
emotion touch your spirit and your body.
The Laistrygonians and the Cyclops,
angry Poseidon - you will not meet them
unless you carry them in your soul,
unless your soul raise them up before you...
C. P. Cavafy "Ithica" 1911

You forgot:

bitten by a dog
attacked by a bull
struck by lightning
bitten by bedbugs
having the camino's worst snorer ending up in the same dormitory as you every night
Spanish electricity power station workers having a month long strike so no hot water for showers, no cafe con leche or pulpo available during your camino

but then again....

the weather could be nice and warm, your 1st night albergue companions could become soulmates, you take a Pulitzer prize winning photo during your camino, everytime you feel yourself flagging a little a cafe/bar comes into sight, you realise that lentil stew is your favourite food ever

:D

Buen camino

Don't think so much about it. Just take a deep breath and enjoy the adventures which are waiting for you. Bon Camino :D

I know how you feel. I'll see you there. I won't be leaving SJ in a hurry now that I've given over to the weather and don't need to race off. I like the idea of spending a few days in downtown St Jean. I'll be getting off the train into the little village I have spoken of so often of for 3 years ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT NEXT WEEK.

My anxiety was worse when the countdown shrunk to under a month, but now it's a day and a bit I'm so grateful to be over the WAITING. The Waiting was what pushed my nerves through the roof.

I haven't trained enough, my poor daughter's pack is far too heavy (full of warmer clothes than we originally planned...), I banged up my foot ridiculously badly 3 days ago and I'm just keen to get on the damned plane. I'm obviously not walking off anywhere in a hurry, so maybe Georgia and I will walk up and down the streets of St Jean for a few days until we get our packs 'just right'. (I noticed it's a tad hilly).

Done my first walk last year and I'm nearly 50 and very overweight. I got tired, angry, exhausted, nearly had a fight with someone who tried to take my bunk. But with EVERYTHING, a half second pause to take a breath allowed me to achieve the greatest goal of my life. I am going back in May to do it all again and am planning the 'de la plata' for 2014. Buencamino and ... breathe. Phil

Met a group of English university students last year doing the camino near Sarria, one of them was carrying a skateboard. Whenever he came across a long flat or downhill tarmac stretch he got up on the skateboard and cut loose, are you any good on a skateboard?

Buen camino
