I leave in seven days for another round of Camino...
I just pulled out my backpack and of course thru it over my shoulders instantly as if hugging an old friend, instead it slapped me in the face....

OYE OYE OYE...the straps that once went around my waist after a completion of the Frances needed some HUGE adjustment/ let out to make it around this time...sigh....

It has been 6 years since our last Camino and getting prepared is much harder.
The pack belt doesn't fit.
The zip off pants don't fit.
The Camino tshirt REALLY doesn't fit!
I am training slower than before and feeling worse too.

Bummer...

Life happens. Donate what clothing "shrank" and just buy the right size. If the clothing fits marginally, take it. Wear it snug. Buy the end of the Camino, it will likely fit.

It's all good...

I agree setting a goal to fit back into our Camino clothes would be ideal - I am more worried about my clothes falling off as I have list weight in training and hope to lose 5kgs more before 12th May when we fly out plus at least 1kg each week so in all about 11kgs - hmm maybe I better get a smaller belt

Its strange we can always fit into a fat suit but we don't always fit into the clothes we want to fit into - personally I think clothing manufacturers have a different sizing scale each year so what they called a size 8 last year is now a size 6 so we have to but size 10 and feel bad - they should work the other way around

Of course at the end of your Camino - provided you don't indulge in too much vino tinto or Santiago Tart you may find that your shrunk clothes now fit. Of course they could also get smaller!! Beun Camino

Sounds like the Dutchman in the movie The Way had all the right intentions but was lured by the pleasures of the taste buds - I will follow my conscience on this and when all else fails I am sure my wonderful wife will pull me into line

Hi Roger,
I can certainly see by your photo that you are far from happy about the situation, but now you have hit rock bottom the only way is up.

Kieth - It is safe to say that no one will prolly write a book about my accomplishments, BUT after 60 years and going strong, staying mostly happy has never been a problem for me. Can't wait to begin my Camino in September! :)

Hi Roger,

Good to hear you are going strong and looking forward to your first Camino in September, in 35 days you should also have time to visit Muxia & Finisterre.
Try and really immerse yourself in everything the Camino offers you and sometimes throws at you. This will give you the best possible experience on The Way. Many, far more articulate than myself have failed to adequately describe the feelings & emotions but you will return to St Charles a changed man.
At 71 I am returning for another dose of Camino tonic which you cannot buy in a shop.

Ultreia & Buen Camino...................Keith.

I'm with you on that one, I didn't really lose any weight on the Camino but boy have I put on some since I have been back :(

Got back in December and kind of let the walking and fitness subside, getting back into it now and have started running....ok all 3 days of it so far. Have a new goal in sight, be Camino ready for the Via Francigena in 2 years, a fellow pilgrim I met on the Camino Frances and I have plans to do this. However 2 years is too far away for me so I plan doing the Camino Frances in that time :)

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Every time I walk, I go on a shopping spree in Santiago because I "just can't wear these clothes another day!". I look and feel great. Then, I get home and after 2 months I can barely wear them. Sigh.

Pack up your troubles in your old kit-bag,
And smile, smile, smile,
While you've a lucifer to light your fag,
Smile, boys, that's the style.
What's the use of worrying?
It never was worth while, so
Pack up your troubles in your old kit-bag,
And smile, smile, smile.
Don't need a cigarette to smile but a glass of Rioja will do!
