hello,
I am planning to walk the Portugues in spring 2018 and would love to be able to start in Faro and walk along the coast joining the coastal Camino route near Lisbon. I would really appreciate any information on the routes available, accommodation etc between Faro and Lisbon. Thanks.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
I walked north-south from Santiago do Cacem to Cabo de São Vicente along the Fisherman's Way (coastal route of the Rota Vicentina) in March 2016 and was very impressed with the accommodations. Actually the first two days were along the Historical Way and then I crossed over to the coast. On one occasion I had to stay in a hotel but all along the coast in what they call surfer's hostels. This is a huge step up from municipal albergues in Spain as they give you sheets and a towel. Sleeping is in dorms with bunkbeds and there was always a kitchen.

I was in awe of the raw beauty of the coast - very rugged with no one around! Towns are very small so don't expect museums and the like. This route is truly a nature lover's dream! That said, some find several stages difficult due to walking in the sand. I guess that I get practice living near the coast and my Sunday walks on the beach.

This is a walk that I would do again. Look at the section on the Rota Vicentina as I know that I as well as others have written up information.

Forgot to mention but the signage is wonderful, no getting lost here.

I must say that I am a bit jealous although I prefer having the sun on my face than at my back.

Cheers
LT

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
