Question about Sea to Summit Poncho

just wanting to know if other people are having trouble with Sea to Summit Nano poncho not keeping them dry. Mine is as wet underneath as on top. Laid it out on table and pooling water under. Most people say theirs work well. What is going on. I tried two brand new ones??

Hmm, I used the Sea to Summit poncho on the CP this spring and didn't have that problem. The first time was in just an extended drizzle so not much of a test, and the second time in steady rain for about 3–4 hours. I stayed dry both times. No strong winds though, which could be problematic with such a lightweight poncho. I brought a cord to wrap around my waist to hold the poncho in place in case of wind, but didn't need it. Could wind have been the issue? Otherwise maybe your poncho is defective. Maybe contact Sea to Summit or the vendor you got it from?

I wore mine all day in driving rain. Wet to the top of my legs (wearing a skirt and poncho didn't cover all of skirt). My mods will be extra domes either side, one pair being to hold the poncho at the wrist tightly, another between original domes. Alternatively to attach a sleeve, attached only to the poncho on the top edge, to give more arm protection. I'd trade off weight for complete waterproofness any time. It kept my pack dry, although augmented by a shower proof pack cover. That's my priority.

If you want better coverage and are not concerned about weight, I recommend the Altus Atmospheric Poncho. It's long, covers your backpack and (most) of your legs, and has actual sleeves that fasten at the wrists. I seem to alternate between taking the Altus for quality coverage (and relative ease to put on) and something else for the reduced weight.

P.S. The website lists the Altus weight at 300g.

I have one (145g) and it protects well.

I always had a problem keeping the nylon snaps fastened. Simple solution - SUPER GLUE. One drop per snap and voila! No more separating snaps. I was a lot drier after that.

No problems at all. Mine is about 10 years old so maybe they just don't make them like they used to?

I use an extra long shoe lace (also works as spare shoe laces, and clothes line) and tie it around my waist just under the pack. And if I'm walking without poles I weave my hands back inside which keeps my hands warm and dry, and also helps the poncho not flap around in really strong winds.

The poncho gives enough airflow so your inside wetness wouldn't be from it keeping too much heat inside.
