Walking the Camino September 10th 2012
I have made up my mind to walk the Camino this September and October. Going solo which is what I want as I hope it gives me to think and reflect. Many of my family and friends are shocked at my choice to leave my job and do this adventure as 50+ year old female. I have raised my children, volunteered and served on more boards than I can count yet I have never just stopped and spent time in reflection. This also scares the heck out of me which must be a good thing to do at least a few times in a lifetime. But really, who in this economy leaves a job behind to walk for a month or so?

Let them be shocked now and perhaps happily surprised when you return home! :D

Well it might be fun to shock people at a time in life when things can be so very predictable!
It is interesting how this has become my obsession, something I must do despite the many good reasons not to do the Camino.

Its called 'post-menopause' !!

"Post-menopause can be a wonderful time to explore new freedom, develop as an individual, tear down old boundaries, redefine our roles and goals, and celebrate new achievements."

The financially secure?? :D

It often depends on the field of employment, the skill level, and network you have built during your career. A new job is easy to find for some, difficult for others. I have met a large number of pilgrims who were in some sort of employment transition. The complete lack of responsibility for anything except yourself makes the Camino a good place to think about "things." My brother retired twice after walking, and now has decided that work is what he wants to do in retirement; everything else was too boring. Go figure.
