Ha! This question caught my eye, as several folks in Santiago told me in 2015 that it would be done in 2016!

I was so excited that I would get to see it without scaffolding, but now I'm just okay with it how it is. Anything completed at any time will be wonderful, and I'm just happy to be alive and able to go to Spain--in about a week.

I did hear the swinging incense will be down starting early next year? Restoration is what it is and to witness any place in your lifetime is worth it. But I'm a little bummed that that particular part will not happen when I go.

Growing up Catholic and having priests use their own personal incense "swings" (I don't know what to call them) around holy days was always interesting but the Cathedral takes it to such an crazy level that I was hoping to see it first hand.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

That's a THURIBLE!

(I really love that word. Much better than "censer", which is also correct.)
CENSER that is what I was looking for. But you are correct, will try to say thurible from now on!

The exterior scaffolding should be down by January/February next year and then the interior renovation will start (the Portico de la Gloria is already being renovated since quite some time). For the interior renovation there will be scaffolding necessary which will affect the Botafumeiro to be used or not used and which can also affects pilgrim movements in the cathedral aka certain parts temporarily not open. All this should be over BEFORE the next Holy Year 2021 begins - at least that is the current info here on the "Santiago Grapevine". BC SY
