Hello, Has anyone travelled by train or bus from Santiago to Zamora on to Granja de Moreruela, I've checked online and it seems there is a train from Santiago to Zamora. I will be flying from the UK.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

What are the best options to getting Granja de Moreruela, I could just start at Zamora

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
When we walked the Sanabres, we started in Zamora. Stayed in Montamarta, Riego del Camino, and then Granja de Moreruela where the Sanabres starts. The next day, Granja to Tabara, was a very long day. As I recall, we could have stayed in Faramontanos. Highlights on the Sanabres for us: Casa Anita in Santa Croya, the albergue in Rio Negro (and the restaurant, Me Gusta Comer), the castle in Puebla de Sanabria, the walk from Lubian to O Pereiro, the bakery in Cea, and the monastery in Oseira.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Thanks for the replies, I don't mind starting at Zamora, The main question is where to fly in to, Santiago or Madrid? I know my way around Santiago thats for sure, are there more options to Zamora from Santiago trains etc?

I don't know which would cheaper for you. It is the same train line from either Madrid or Santiago. From the US it would be cheaper to fly to Madrid, but I am not certain from the UK. You should also check the train times as you will have to get from the airport to the train station on both accounts.

In 2019 travelled by train to Zamora. Then a bus from the bus station to G de M. I pre-booked the bus online. It was difficult to get information at the bus station about which bus was the one that went through G de M as I could not speak Spanish. I eventually ended up on the correct bus. It arrived in Zamora about 30 minutes late.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

There are lots of flights from the UK to Madrid and I’ve just booked my train to Zamora though I am staying one night in Madrid and then catching the fast train at 10.04am the following day. It takes just over an hour. It’s just over two hours from Santiago to Zamora depending on the time of day. There are very few fast trains whichever you decide on so don’t get caught out if you then want a bus to Granja de Moreruela afterwards.

A vote here for the train. From SdC is comfortable and fast. The bus station at Zamora is rather basic, though the man in the consigna (left luggage) was very helpful. It seemed that it is only served by Alsa buses.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

When was this? A month ago I spent 2 hours at the Zamora bus station trying to find the Alsa service to Granja based on an old post - they don’t service it now - see my previous post in this thread which refers to my post in the earlier thread. They are # 11 in both threads. I give the details there of which service does operate.

Thanks for all the relies, I've managed to get dirt cheap flight from Stansted to. Santiago, I will catch the train from Santiago to Zamora and start walking from Zamora if buses are difficult to Granja. Time will tell..

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
