Sarria - Santiago Mid September

Hi there,

I'm walking Sarria to Sanitago in mid September and was initially going to book with a travel agent and do the whole group thing but after reading so many posts and getting such sound advice I have decided to do it alone!!! I am a tad nervous but very, very excited :)

I just have two questions:

Do I need walking poles for this section of the Camino?

Where do I get my passport stamped, in a specific office or where I'm staying? Also when do I get it stamped, upon arrival or departure?

Many thanks to all.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
If you have poles and know how to use them, take them and use them. There are plenty of places between Sarria and the end where they are useful, though I find them most useful on the flat and easy parts. They reduce impact and assist balancing my pack.

You can have your credencial stamped any time of the day or night in albergues, hotels, cafe-bars, tourism offices, libraries (free internet) police stations, churches, etc etc. I love looking at the stamps in my credencials - they bring back many memories! Make sure you get at least two a day to satisfy the Pilgrims' Office that you have walked the whole way.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
It is essential you get your credential stamped in Sarria. Then just follow sil's advice and all will be fine.

Hi Hula
You haven't said whether you will already have your passport when you arrive in Sarria!
If you haven't then you will need to get one from one of the following churches:

1. Santa Marina, Rua Maior: open 11-13.00 and 18-21.00 but closed Mondays
2. Nuestra Senora de Rosario, Gran via Alfonso IX: open 10.30-13.30 and 17-20.00, closed Wednesday
3. Monasterio de Madalena, Rua de Mercede; open 10-13.00 and 16.30-19.00 - knock at the cloister door.

Santa Marina is right on the main street and right on the camino, easy to find but the guy keeps Spanish time, for 11.00 read anytime after that.
As you can see if you need to get your credencial in Sarria you are better off getting it the evening before or you will have a late start.
Buen Camino
