Hi all Camino lovers, so I am hoping to walk to distance from Irun to Santiago starting end of June/begin of July, Im planning on walking 16 Miles a day with one rest day a week possible 2 depending on one my feet and body and the wonderful places I choose to rest. Anyway I know there are plenty of serious hikers out there who have walked the camino or who have a lot more experience than me when going on such a journey. I would truly welcome any advice and logistical guidance for me to enjoy my challenge, journey, adventure as much as I can. Also I would love to hear from anyone who would like to meet up at the start and possibly along the way.Peace and love folks, barry

Hi Bazza. I had my first night in Spain in Irun. Looking back at my journal I see that I wrote
"If the rest of Spain is as friendly as Irun, this is going to be a great trip".

If you're looking for a hotel to stay in Irun I can recommend The Alcazar. Lovely people who
made me feel very welcome

I started at Biarritz airport and walked from there to Hendaye on my first day. Fabulous and so different to Spain. There is a coastal walk from Henday to San Sebastián where you take the ferry from the end of the harbour in Hendaye and avoid Irun altogether. I was not enamoured of Irun. I took the Camino but would recommend the high walk 'alpinista' for the views.... Or the coastal walk for an easier first day. The signage to get out of Irun was poor in my humble experience. I walk next week from Bilbao to Aviles, then to Oviedo and then the Primitivo to Lugo and on to Arzua. Start on 3 June and have until 29 June.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Hello. I must have walked 800kms and have perfect feet! Went from Bilbao to Gijon then bus to Oviedo. Primitivo to
Santiago - not very demanding. Ahead by a week so took a bus (1 hour 10 mins) to Ferrol and Camino Ingles - a good one to end on.

Elevation map shows this is really steep! What’s the best way from downtown Hondarribia up there? Then wish me luck on the Purgatorio—I am a nervous wreck.
My group of six arrives in Irun on May 20 and we're starting our Camino on May 21. Since it's the beginning of the busy season, I'm wondering if we should order trekking poles from Amazon Espana...
