As luck would have it, I was WhatsApping with Ender when the Spanish women clinched the World Cup title. He’s walking the Mozárabe now (leaving at 2, 3, 4, or 5 in the morning depending on the day’s predicted temperature).

If any of you have been on a camino when a big sports event is going on, the opportunity to participate in a game-watching session in a bar is one of those very special events.

And p.s. I’ve heard a lot of singing of “campeones, campeones, olé olé olé” so it was a nice change to hear “CAMPEONAS.”

That's brave! I walked from Malaga in the middle of winter and still had some days that were on the warm side for comfort. Forecast for much of Spain later this week for 35+C. Perhaps as much as 37 or 38C in SJPDP midweek. Scary to think what it will be like in Andalusia then.

Yes, he stops walking by 10 am. I couldn’t do it.

In the great tradition of rivalry between Australia, NZ and England, I support my own country, or anyone playing one of the others, so it was fantastic to see Spain win.
The better team won on the day.

Some controversial refereeing; a fair bit of gameswomanship, but our goalkeeper was off her line when that penalty was taken; so all in all a fair result.

A tremendous achievement to get to a World Cup final and a massive boost for women’s sport. Mrs HtD has just been explaining the offside rule to me.

I was lucky enough to be there in Stadium Australia to see the win. Spain, particularly in the first half, were an absolute joy to watch. Lots could be said about many things in this match but the better team won on the night. Drove the long way home thinking of so much joy being felt all over Spain and of the long day ahead with the tooting of those horns! Enjoy the moment!

I recall on one Camino being in a bar in Spain when the gorgeous Nadal was on the big screen playing - and later winning - an important match. Pandemonium. It was such fun. 😎

The Women's World Cup has been fabulous to watch. And to see sold out stadiums and prime time coverage for women’s sport. 😍. We've been cheering on the Australian Matildas from here in France. My French husband didn't mind at all when the Matildas beat France. He's all for 'best team on the day' so we both celebrated the win.

And the final, well I confess to being another Australian who is happy with the Spanish win. If it couldn't be the Matildas - who were beaten by England in the semi-finals - then my heart was with the Spanish.

It was 46.8c in Valencia while I was there.

I am disappointed in Spanish men (in general) and the Spanish media. While in Madrid the week before, when they had won through to the final, I saw no evidence, anywhere, that acknowledged the women's success. 😕
