They are wait listed til September but if you call 0034 981 55 29 85 before your camino the nice folks in the Palacio de Diego Gelmirez will put you down for a tour of the excavations. I managed to worm my way in (so to speak. I have "contacts" you see..) but DO go as the tour is extraordinary.
First you will see the part under the south transcept where the original door of basilicas 1 and 2 were. You will also see the area where Theodomir's tomb was found. (I make no bones about Theodemir for it is he).
Then you will go to the area which touches the "town wall" (I doubt this, but...) and see the remains of not only the pagan sarcophagi but also the fourth century (Priscillianist  ) ones, and the later Sueve ones. It is all dust which hasn't seen the light of day since the 11th century and skeletons: REAL skeletons. You can clamber all over the place (but no pictures, and I SO wanted pictures! I was reminded that during the mass I had said "Do not lead me into temptation". But I did want to ...)(I didn't)
Go now before they make it all nice and tidy. It is absolutely NOT to be missed.

Sounds kind of scary!? Are there proper emergency exits?

SSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH
Fra Luchi, don't give the game away. If they start thinking "health and safety", it'll be sealed up again for another 1000 years!

Just imagine, clambering over dust which hasn't seen the light of day since 1100!

I just found all the details on my ticket stub:
