Hi everyone. Has anyone taken CF detour from El Acebo to the Valley of Silence/Penalba de Santiago? If so, how long is the route? Are there waymarkers along the route? I checked the thread about this detour on this forum but, the last entry was from 2014.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
You're probably talking about my post.

I can't imagine much has changed, but I don't think you're going to find any forum members who have done it more recently. I have had a few PMs the last couple of years from people thinking about it, but they always find that they are unwilling to break off from their camino group when they get to Ponferrada or El Acebo.

Happy to answer questions. If you're going to do it, I would suggest the full circle from Ponferrada rather than the two day El Acebo to Penalba to Ponferrada. The first day from Ponferrada to El Acebo is very pretty.

Marking was quite good. Buen camino, Laurie

peregrina2000 Laurie,

Thanks so much for link. That is not the thread I came across, but has information I need. I will walk VDP to Seville joining Camino Frances at Astorga, unless I have teamed up with wonderful folks on VDP, walk to Ponferrada, walk circular, then invierno, then.... After Santiago: Dumbria, Muxia, Fisterre, and all stops in-between. If I meet great folk on VDP, I will do circular way after Fisterre as a bonus. Ponferrada has become a true place of pilgrimage for me. 2017, here I come.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
This won't answer your question, but I could not resist saying that your condition "unless I have teamed up with wonderful folks on VDP" is likely to kick in. I found that God used all the wonderful folks to guide my steps and set my pace. It was the people on my first Camino that answered the question I had going into this regarding why anyone would do this more than once. Thanks to all the people shared my time along the way this year. I am planning my next Camino already.
