Walking from Sarria to Santiago

BeateNor

New Member
Me and my mother are going to walk Sarria -Santiago, we have 10 days and three are travelingdays.

I saw that the best option probably is to take the bus from Santiago to Sarria and walk the way back. But we feel that it would be like opening the biggest christmas present before christmas

Got a tips from the pilgrimage office in norway that we can take buss number 200 from the airport and will get to Avenue de America, where do we fint the bus to Sarria? Do we need to book a room? We are gonna walk from 10-20 April!

Greetings from Beate

Beate,
Take the bus, you are well outside SDC and it goes very fast,
There are many good alburgues in Sarria. I'm sure Ivar can help there.
I made it from Sarria to SdC easily in 10 days, stopping by 1200 each day. Add an extra 2 hours a day and you will have no problem.
I know a bit about the tenacity of the Norwegians as I served with the Norwegian Guard Company in Kirkeness.

Hello Beate,
You will probably have to take two buses - from Santiago to Lugo and then from Lugo to Sarria.
Don't worry, the bus doesn't travel on the Camino path and you hardly see any of the villages that you'll walk through on the Camino.
Or, you could share a taxi which will cost about 120 euro.

Hi!
From the info above, I gather you'll be landing in Madrid.
If that's the case, you can grab an ALSA bus right from Terminal 4 direct Sarria. No need to go to Avenida de America.

The trip is about 9 hours and cost between 70 and 90 Euros, depending on the time of the day.
Here is the ALSA site where you can search for schedule and purchase your ticket:
http://www.alsa.es/portal/site/Alsa/tem ... cachetoken

Sarria is full of accommodation and reservations are not warranted.

Wish you and your mother the best on the camino,
Jean-Marc

The overnight train goes from Madrid at 22h30 to Lugo which stops in Sarria at 06h38 . Make sure you go to Madrid Chamartin station (there is also the Atocha train station).
Prices: (I think the one you want is the 66.90 euro one.) You could book this at the airport in Madrid when you arrive.
There is a Renfe office in the airport. It is on the lower level, just to the right when you exit customs. They can sell you a ticket there.

:D Javier just pm'd me to point out my mistake - the train station is Atocha - not Etosha, which is a wonderful, wildlife sanctuary in Southern Africa. No trains to Sarria from there!!

Beate.
You walk from Sarria to Santiago in 4-5 days, so you have time enough.
Buen camino!

Not sure I understand the question.

Are you asking?

From the city to Sarria or from the Airport to Sarria?
Is there a bus?
Where does the bus leave from?
How long does it take?
How do I book it?

I have not used that bus, but have used the bus from Santiago to Muxia. The tourist office in Santiago gave me the bus times and I walked to the Bus Station to catch the bus...

I'm sure someone will pop in with exactly the information you seek very soon ;)

Yes, I'm sorry if the question is not understood. Let me try again: I'm flying INTO Santiago de Compostela and then trying to get myself into Sarria to start my walk. I don't know how to get to Sarria from Santiago. Can someone tell me if there is a bus that goes there, and how to find out about that bus.
