Time of past OR future Camino
September 2023
Hi, I am doing my first Camino in September from Lisbon to Santiago. What is the weather usually like. From what I have read it should be in the 70’s.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hi Lynn and welcome!

Cant give info from Lisbon but from Porto !
I walked mid September (17th) to October (13th).
Weather was great average after a cool start was between 20 and 27C one rainy day! (27 C Santiago Oct 12th)
But that was 2021 it's weather :) no guarantees this year.
Have a wonderful walk

70s Fahrenheit might be underestimating it. I started from Lisbon on 1 Sep 2020 and early on we had 12 consecutive days of at least 33 degrees Celsius (91 deg F), with a max of 39 C / 102 F.
I'd second that. September and October can be very hot, particularly those first few days south of Tomar when you're in the Tejo (Tagus) valley and often walking through shadeless fields.

Be prepared; umbrella or great big hat; carry lots of water.

In my experience average weather is not a lot of help; how do you cope with either end of the weather spectrum? The answer is layers.

My first Camino was from Porto in October 2018. There was a heatwave and temperatures were in the mid 30's C. I do not like hot temperatures but I learnt to cope. Wet hair, wet hat, wet micro towel inside my hat, drink plenty and walk in whatever shade you find. It also rained in Santiago, but that's possibly average 😅

Bom Caminho
