My wife and I will be walking from Geneva to Le Puy to SJPDP and beyond starting on June 7 this year. We have already experienced a number of Caminos in Spain and are very much looking forward to this adventure judging by the many comments in this forum.
We are just not quite sure of the weather to expect over this period. We fly back to Australia at the start of September. I'm sure that the days will get very warm later in the Summer, but am interested in how cool the nights will get early in the piece. This will assist in what clothing to take. We will be camping (with tent) as often as feasible so will also need to get our sleeping bag rating right. We are getting much better at walking with less gear rather than more.
Any thoughts will be appreciated and many thanks in advance.

That is a fabulous long walk Michael! I can't help with weather predictions at the start as I've never walked from Geneva. I have walked from Le Puy in September and we had snow on the Aubrac plateau.

Hello Michael,
My wife and I left Geneva on 14 June 2018, and walked to SJPdP (and beyond), arriving in SJPdP on 30 August (this includes stopovers at various places). We had 7 days of rain out of the 71 days walking. Temperatures at night were comfortable, but then we went through 'la canicule', a heat wave.
Past performance is not a guarantee, as they say, so you may still want to have that one extra layer for nights.
I hope that helps
Bon Chemin, Buen Camino
Andrew

Three things to know: you are at some elevation on the first and last thirds of the Geneva-LePuy route, but at significantly lower elevation on the middle third as you traverse the Rhone valley; seasons run by the calendar, so that "spring" runs to 21 Jun; and historical data you may access on websites don't seem to account for the heat waves, which were notable in 2018.

Roger camped that route in 2017 and blogged it here: https://rogerbreakell.wordpress.com/2017/07/01/day-86-in-the-heights/

Thankyou for your replies. We have 3-season bags which are small and light. My decision now is either to stick with these using a silk liner and put on warm clothing at night, or consider purchasing warmer bags. Will think on it.

Hello Michael, I have never needed a sleeping bag when following pilgrim trails or GR trails in France. Blankets or duvets are provided in the gites d'étape. A silk liner or sleeping sheet is needed, though.

Happy planning!

Michael
would you be kind enough to post a few updates in June and July. I will walk the same stretch sometime later this year. Thanks.
