Camino Frances done March 2014
Hi there,
I have completed the Camino Frances on Good Friday in 2014 (Started in St Jean Pied de Port and finished in Santiago). I walked this with my mother :)

We are now planning to go again....but we are not sure which Camino to do next?

Can you please advise?

I have heard the Camino Norte is more scenic but hard to walk? And that the Camino Portuguese is very easy, but not at scenic...My sister might be joining us on this trip so we would love for her to have a good first experience.

Thanks for your help!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Expand your horizons beyond Spain. Start in Le Puy - wonderful scenery, enough other walkers without being crowded, and guilt-free French cooking!

It is a hard decision and one w had to go through, but we decided to do the Frances again this August(2017) and then the Norte next spring(2018) It is not easy to decide and it came down to re-walking the Frances again since the experience of trekking the Frances made such profound changes in us. We took 44 days to do it last year, this year we are devoting over 60 days to it.

Buen Camino ! :)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

How long did it take you to complete it?

The distance is about the same as for the Camino Frances from SJPP to Santiago: 750 km. I took six weeks, spread over two years, but I am a rather slow walker and as always, your mileage may vary.

Sound amazing. But we are traveling from South Africa, so we need to complete it in one go. We also want to finish in Santiago, so will then have to cover twice the distance which wont be possible :-(

How much time do you have? What's your daily average distance? Do you prefer more hilly or flat terrain? What time of year do you want to walk (some Caminos are hot as hell in the summer)? Do you want to walk very populated or more solitary Camino?
Take a look at this map, many choices and not all of routes are on it:

I'm with Kitsambler Le Puy! The scenery, the architecture, the food, Cele Valley, Rocamadour, Conques, Moissac, a-n-d Serge in Cahors (for those poor souls who have never met Serge - Le Relais des Jacobins albergue just over the bridge behind the cathedral at 12 Rue des Jacobins)!!!

Norte! Norte! Norte! But I am biased! It is the only Camino I have done. I have done it twice and can not imagine walking for 5-6 weeks without seeing the ocean! I am out of shape, and slow, but I loved the Norte. :p

One of our fellow forum members writes a guide book on the Northern Caminos. The authors have recently re walked most of the Northern Caminos and have a great perspective on their podcast.

It was fun to listen to, but also very very informative.

PS When Serge asks "Will you be in for dinner?". The correct answer is YES!!!!

My wife and I just completed the Portuguese Camino from Porto via the central route. I would not say it is 'easy'. Certainly the miles of cobblestone paths take their toll on your feet. We started to call them 'hobble stones'. In any case we enjoyed this Camino route and we fell in love with Portugal. We plan to return to Portugal at some point for sure.

Portugués not scenic? That's a wicked lie!

It's a lovely walk, not too strenuous, with good food, lovely people, and lots of new albergues. If you have the time, start in Lisbon!

Thanks everyone - I have much research to do!
We have between 3-6 weeks, average between 25-28km's a day. My sister and I both have small children back home so can't be away longer than that.
